@stux "The Schwarzschild radius of this black hole is 120 billion kilometers, giving a diameter of 240 billion kilometers, 1,600 astronomical units, or about 40 times the radius of Pluto's orbit, and [it] has a mass equivalent to four Large Magellanic Clouds."S5 0014+81 - Wikiwand - https://www.wikiwand.com/en/S5_0014%2B81

@FreePietje @lx242 @ericbuijs @humanetech @danslerush This is wonderful news. I removed #FairEmail from my phone when I read the news that it was no longer going to be developed or supported. I tried an alternative for a few days, but I much prefer FairEmail (I even spent some of my pension on buying the upgrade last year). Anyway, I am very pleased that the developer had a change of heart & won't be removing it from the Google Play Store.

"In the depths of winter 2015, an Australian tax specialist adopted the language of a spy. “For your eyes only,” he wrote, while emailing government secrets to colleagues who would later use them to help clients and make millions of dollars.Nearly eight years later, that email and dozens more like it have engulfed PwC in a scandal that has forced resignations, possible criminal and corruption investigations, invited furious rebuke and accusations of insider trading, and threatened future government contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars." #PwC #PriceWaterhouseCoopers #Australia #taxation #InsiderTrading #TaxAvoidance #TaxEvasion #accounting #crime #corruption ‘Disgraceful breach of trust’: how PwC, one of the world’s biggest accountancy firms, became mired in a tax scandal | PwC | The Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/may/12/disgraceful-breach-of-trust-how-pwc-one-of-the-worlds-biggest-accountancy-firms-became-mired-in-a-tax-scandal

@yogthos I think I would vote for every single one of these policies:"The Commune governed Paris for two months, establishing policies that tended toward a progressive, anti-religious system of social democracy, including the separation of church and state, self-policing, the remission of rent, the abolition of child labor, and the right of employees to take over an enterprise deserted by its owner. All the Roman Catholic churches and schools were closed. Feminist, socialist, communist and anarchist currents played important roles in the Commune. However, the various Communards had little more than two months to achieve their respective goals."Paris Commune - Wikiwand - https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Paris_Commune

"Pressure is mounting on the New South Wales state government to halt logging within the boundaries of the proposed Great Koala National Park, which it promised to create near the state’s Mid North Coast during its last two election campaigns.Forestry Corporation NSW plans show that, over the next 12 months, it intends to log 30,813 hectares of a total 175,000 hectares of state forests that fall within the boundaries of the proposed Great Koala National Park, home to one in five of the state’s surviving koalas." #NSW #NSWpol #koala #conservation #endangered #logging #NationalParks #animals #nature #environment #Australia Under-threat koala habitat to be logged ahead of national park declaration - https://www.smh.com.au/environment/conservation/before-creation-of-koala-national-park-loggers-target-key-habitat-20230520-p5d9w0.html

I think there might be a new type of phone scam doing the rounds here in Australia.I just got a call on my unlisted landline number from a woman (with an Aussie accent) who said that she had a missed call from my phone number. When I told her I hadn't called anyone, she was adamant that I had.The thing is (and I just tested by calling my mobile from my home phone) that calls from my landline do not broadcast the phone number. They just show as a call from a "Private Number". So she couldn't return a missed call from me.Either someone is spoofing my private phone number, or more likely there is a new type of scam where people call your number & tell you that you had called them in the hope that you might reveal some other information while trying to work out what the "missed" call was about. So, if someone calls you saying that they are returning a missed call from your number, and you don't believe you had called them, be very cautious about providing any personal information to them.#scam #scams #Australia

@zog I certainly wasn't aware that number spoofing was such a simple process.

"Unilever has been named as an international sponsor of war by the Ukrainian government after the Marmite, Dove and Domestos owner became subject to a law in Russia obliging all large companies operating in the country to contribute directly to its war effort. The move came as campaigners called on Unilever’s new boss, Hein Schumacher, who started work this weekend, to withdraw from Russia, where its local business continues to sell “essential” products from tea to ice-cream, after evidence emerged that it paid Moscow $331m in taxes last year.Unilever was placed on the sponsors of war list on Monday alongside companies including Procter & Gamble (P&G), the world’s largest manufacturer of household chemicals and personal care products, and the French supermarket group Leroy Merlin." #Unilever #Dove #Marmite #Domestos #ProcterAndGamble #LeroyMerlin #Ukraine #UkraineWar #Russia #SlavaUkrainiUnilever named ‘international sponsor of war’ by Ukraine | Unilever | The Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/jul/03/unilever-named-international-sponsor-of-war-by-ukraine

Good news via The Guardian Australia:‘Seriously cute’ population of rare native rodent found.A detection dog has unexpectedly discovered a new population of rare native rodents in Melbourne’s outer east. The previously unrecorded broad-toothed rat population was found by a four-year-old labrador called Moss who was searching the Coranderrk Bushland near Healesville Sanctuary.Moss was searching in an area when he alerted his trainer to grass-filled, bright green animal scat.Scientists confirmed it came from the broad-toothed rat, a native species known for its chubby cheeks, fluffy fur and short tail.Zoos Victoria’s Sakib Kazi said the rats were notoriously hard to trap but adorable."I challenge you to have a look at their face and not immediately fall in love. They are seriously, seriously cute." #animals #rodents #endangered #rats #Australia #science #DetectionDog #GoodNews #Melbourne #Healesville #nature Story source: AAP https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/live/2023/jul/09/australia-news-live-trade-security-robodebt-indigenous-voice-cost-of-living?page=with:block-64aa12ee8f0891fc197043b6#block-64aa12ee8f0891fc197043b6
