Should we do away with subsidies for higher education?: https://www.thehindu.com/opinion/op-ed/should-we-do-away-with-subsidies-for-higher-education/article30041719.ece Subsidy in education produces positive externalities such as health improvement, and reduction in population growth, poverty and crime, and strengthening of democracy. Yet, there is a demand for removal of subsidies.

https://theintercept.com/2019/11/08/facebook-alexandria-ocasio-cortez-political-ads/ - THE PROBLEM WITH asking Facebook to censor ads, critics argue, is that it puts too much power in the hands of those in a privileged position to determine what is true and what is false.

@jamewils A state CM allowed his personal dietary preference to deny children their due nutrition. Nothing is essentially more capricious, immoral and evil as this. The exercise of absolute force to ensure that a next generation is weakened, stunted and forever falling short of their potential.

https://www.telegraphindia.com/opinion/an-all-india-nrc-would-turn-citizens-into-supplicants/cid/1721575- If the State has doubts about an individual’s citizenship status, it has to substantiate its suspicions. With a National Register of Citizens, the burden of proof is abruptly shifted: the citizen has to prove his/her claim to citizenship. It’s like the abrupt withdrawal of the presumption of innocence

All those celebrities who used to regurgitate jokes about fuel prices, or, exchange rates - the time is near to judge them for being complicit. Waiting for history to do that is a privilege they do not deserve.

Rahul Kanwal tends to cover up his gaffes by adopting that hectoring tone indicating "I may have been wrong now, but do remember bad things often happen". Well, since he is a senior journalist of sorts, should he not be reporting, investigating rather than imagining and berating? If Karnataka is being placed as a warning sign, then is he condoning the methods applied there and thus is a Chanakya neeti fanboi?

Websites which make arbitrary decisions for their users are the most frustrating thing. Take Bluedart's consignment tracker. It doesn't load over a VPN and in fact doesn't even throw a message about it while timing out. As VPN and private browsing becomes more prevalent, these sites need to improve their game.

Hah! Here I was wondering why this "bookmarks" bit is unavailable. Turns out that it is unavailable in Tusky and absolutely available in the web UI. I should have attempted to think through this more logically :)

A close friend does not use a smartphone. School assignments and coursework for the child has been designed to be handled over WhatsApp. The end result - a MacGyver system of emulators, Android apps and sluggish experience. And a child who now has to use WhatsApp.

On the topic of house staff my RWA WhatsApp group is "what if contract the disease from them" with nary a "what if they get it from us". Class lines create local bullies who think far too much of their own selves. Meanwhile, demand/supply situation is now against the residents.

Unlock and the Puja season is going to be a dicey situation. Had gone out yesterday and forget 'masks on chin' folks aren't wearing masks at all. Retail outlets at malls like South City Kolkata don't gate check for masks or even temperature checks.

Folks keep being disturbed at 'digital colonialism'. To observe and understand true plutocracy consider the fact that Twitter forced a UX change simply because one single nation has an election cycle. That is the state of things.

One would find it hard to believe that there is a raging pandemic. This entire set of pages seem irresponsible and selfish.
