@edendestroyer @Gargron You may have misunderstood. He said there's no consensus on CW use. You've been here about four days. I've been here about ten. You and I can have our separate opinions about CW use, but Eugen knows a hell of a lot more about the culture here than either of us. So I'm telling people don't tell others how they should use CWs based on the culture here. He just told us. I'm respecting expertise.

I shared the "first they came for the journalists" meme because I thought it was clever. But I won't again because it distorts Niemöller's original prose confessional and most accepted poetic versions derived from it. Most of us know Niemöller mentioned and the poems begin "first they came for the communists." They also mention socialists, trade unionists, and, of course, Jews. Some versions include disabled and chronically ill. 1/2

Nazis came for the people most rejected, least protected in that German society. No one stood up for them because no one outside their groups ever had.We must protect our journalists, but they were never the "first they came for." Not then. Not now. @stanford With great respect, I humbly request that you put on a coat and go out anyway. Just a block will do. I've had this illness for 50 years. Underlying the pain and despair you feel are brain chemicals that are out of balance. You can hack them, slowly but surely, by doing little things like this. Be patient with yourself. It isn't your fault.

@Tilopa I read bits of ancient history now and then. That added to what I know of modern history often leaves me disheartened. So much human devastation has happened because of criminal lies. And now the major social test seems to be how well they get away with it.

If you see a person like me with a cane or walker at an intersection without lights, thanks for slowing to see if I want to cross. But if I wave you on, please go on.
