One good thing about every other indie game being a roguelike is that my wishlist is only growing half as fast as usual.

I look forward to the reciprocal tariffs so I never have to hear about a Marvel film ever again.Maybe we’ll all start watching Bollywood. https://mastodon.online/@jchyip/114455098248324828

I see the Lix people have been seriously hard at work!https://lix.systems/blog/2025-05-06-lix-2.93-release/I'm very impressed. I'm especially happy for the workaround of macOS' `poll`, because I experience the Ctrl+C failure regularly when using nix-direnv. (Thanks @leftpaddotpy!)Gonna install it and play.

What are the odds I can compile Agda to Haskell, then the Haskell to a mostly-static library, then use the library in Rust, in all major operating systems? The caveat is that I want a *mostly-static* library, which means statically linking against Haskell dependencies (e.g. libgmp + the Haskell RTS), but dynamically linking against libc (glibc on Linux, the various BSD C libraries, libSystem on macOS, and whatever the fuck Windows uses).

One thing I definitely do not remember from my childhood is how *noisy* Lego is. Digging through a box to find a piece really does sound like a mini construction site.I think I have become much more sensitive to uninvited noise in the last 10 years or so.

Stepping on Lego is mostly overrated. It’s not that bad. Unpleasant, sure, but the random pieces of (gross) silicate litter my cat leaves around are much more painful and hard to spot.

The underlying issue is that I have layers of Terraform, Ansible, and Docker Compose, and it’s a nightmare.I gotta get back to building a new programming language to replace this whole mess. Should take, what, 5 more years?

I'm trying out the Dusa programming language (https://dusa.rocks/), so I made a baby 4x4 Sudoku. It was fun. ^_^I'd love some array/list functionality; I wouldn't want to tackle a regular 9x9 Sudoku through copy-pasta. But I appreciate how easy this was with the `forbid` directive.Implementation here:https://dusa.rocks/#jsonz=hZHBasMwDIZfRXOvXsBpT4Vc2jdIYadcIiuDsswu3UIHpe8-2VaceD2MHH4-_frlWL6rb7VX_jI4pRV5O30OLlQ2cJrIf0yd69zV36CvkqKoFSVW68foB0VRKxr8zqH_gZ6_81dsTIhrxNLF0u3BBsSMtEYsXSxdmybbjLhGKl0qXZsmU0ZaI5UuLS7ffRhHaOEYKnejodaw1bB7wP4Vwt5aDWE9x9i8efdXPPM4CZmQeuPUXKhjgWew9dIwa7ahabhW_Y2bdOgSr6XAoTbG23_i5ilfPw9Y_iTcPccOwnPoUBwle5G3N1XmuLntzPIou4Xt3K8evwNote that if you click the above link *before* you visit https://dusa.rocks/, it will overwrite the example programs. I’m really glad Mastodon 4.4.0 will allow server admins to opt into sending the Referer header, and I hope admins of large instances will turn it on.https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/releases/tag/v4.4.0-beta.1I also hope that third-party mobile clients such as Mona, Ivory, Tusky, etc. have a way to query this via the API so they can also respect the setting. Many people believe they get no traffic from Mastodon because their analytics service doesn’t recognise it. This could change, and give us a bit more clout.

The best thing about newsletters hosted on Buttondown is you can subscribe using RSS (or maybe Atom, unsure).

A friend of mine sent me Iceland (the UK supermarket)‘s official “fuck the management consultants” page, on their actual website.https://about.iceland.co.uk/our-story/the-dark-ages/I love it.

Are there any habit reminder tools (ideally, an iOS app) that just remind me to do something every day, without trying to take me on a “self-care journey” or “become a better version of myself”?I just want something that reminds me to take a couple of pills, clean the cat’s litter box, and prepare some coffee for cold-brewing in the evening.I specifically don’t care about tracking my progress, and I do want something that reminds me even if I forgot yesterday, which most task trackers don’t.

Hey friends, my partner has put together a course to help people with the mental side of landing a tech job. Confidence in interviews, finding stuff that aligns with your values, salary negotiation; that sort of thing. She’s been a programmer for 15 years and a therapist and coach for a few years now.She is looking for feedback on the course in exchange for some free coaching on the topic. If you’re interested, let me know! And boost or forward if you like.

I have had a much easier time navigating conversations ever since I realised that when people say “you”, they are not talking about you, they’re talking about themselves in the second person.

This is doubly true for anyone on the Internet. And quadruply true for anyone on the Internet speaking in generalities.
