for every lock, there is a boltcutter.for every softlock, there's a custom firmware.for every shitty drm, there's a workaround.for every awful tech bro who comes at you like you know nothing, there's not just one, but two boots on my feet, and they are heavy with asskicking power.

@alcinnz i might give it a shot - the nuances of the dev process are a bit lost on me but most of the terms are familiar so that's a good enough start

let's be real. we all use what we have in front of us because we believe it is more acceptable, given what it demands of us, than other options we believe available.linux users often don't have money for licenses and shit, and while piracy is a valid solution to that so too is going "fuck this capitalism stuff, let's just do it ourselves" and we should empower that.win users often don't have the latitude or info to make sweeping OS changes on the systems they have access to.

likewise, mac users may have tons of money to throw at a problem but thanks to the needs of their work or creative environment feel that this is an operational cost, not a luxury one. the price of business in a capitalist society that undervalues their labor.we all make compromises in some places because there simply is no ethical consumption. we surrender something, always - linux users surrender their comfort and time, win/mac users their cash and personal security. trades.

to be clear, linux users should not have to work so hard to agitate for change on a platform level. we need to empower our dev friends to build the worlds we're gonna need to operate in tomorrow, or the whole thing reverts to corporate monopoly.likewise when we fail to see corp engaged humans as humans, we see them as monolithic extensions of those corporations, despite them having full, rich inner lives - many, if not most, of which revolving around dismantling shit elsewhere

a lot of my ugly secrets about myself aren’t actually about me so much as areas i was underserved as a kid that i try to hide;science education and science pedagogy (teaching and the art of) just were nonexistent even in the “advanced” programs i got into. i dont remember much that doesn’t neatly fill out a scantroni need help, actually! i feel so overwhelmed by my ignorance i want to scream and wikipedia always feels so intensely judgmental, with its ivory tower aesthetic

today though i want to start small. real small.i work with and have taught people how to work with basic electronics, wiring, etc. but for the life of me ive never once heard an explanation for basic electrodynamics that didn’t leave me feeling like my mind was on fire and i needed to eject. no idea why.can someone gently walk me through (not wiki or google) how to understand voltage, amperage, and resistance? i can read formulae no prob but like. what is actually happening

more specifically, i think my problem is this: i think almost solely in analogy.which makes me good at certain things (back when, analogies as in the a:b::c:d format were on standardized tests, and i was number one top dogg on that lol) but i am really bad at one thing in particular: abstract concepts that i cant anchor to a referent pointso voltage is like pressure but not really? how does that even work? i cant think of it like hydraulics or pneumatics? i need help!

@_ @Pyretta as a fellow embarrassed gay who puts on a fair bit of product - you're too good to have to wonder whether you are. cuteness is a thing that radiates from your inner self out - you getting the beauty products just right to match is an extension of your inner cuteness, manifest in how you want to presentyou're always cute vi!

@DeeUnderscore i think there's actually been some pretty good post facto analyses of these written by the people themselvesi feel vaguely certain the "star wars kid" (whose name i forgot but he's easy to look up) famous for using janitorial tools like a lightsaber on camera gave a detailed interview about his feelings on the matter, i'll look it up if you have a hard time finding it but i recommend it!
