Tbqh I think what it’s really time for is a computer that isn’t 10 years old.

Ok I updated the bios from Debian with flashrom, what a delightfully arse-clenching piece of software (I ran a vbindiff of what I read off the chip with the bin file I had downloaded just to check they matched).Rebooted, and…It broke UEFI booting to my system???Sigh…

Heads up fellow #FediAdmin, do not enable the content cache retention period feature in mastodon. It is worded terribly and actually irreversibly deletes users’ boosts, faves and bookmarks by clearing out remote posts regardless of whether they’ve been interacted with. Huge loss.https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/23261

In a sound financial decision, I purchased 100 rubber ducks, in order to glue magnets to them and hide them in improbable places at work. Also planned is 3D printing hard hats for them (safety ducks)

My theory is that every keysmash is actually the name of a linux window manager project, some just haven’t been discovered yet.

after an hour fucking with CUPS I convinced the printer to print one single page. It did so, smoke came out the top as well, and then it would only print a stack trace (yeah, it printed a stack trace??). until I unplugged, and could get one (1) more page.I think it's for the bin.

Just spent half an hour with two other experts trying to work out why a rack mount USB SATA dock wouldn’t mount any storage device. Tried different ports, computers, different cables, different brand SSDs…Then I looked closer inside the slot and realised that if you aren’t careful aligning it, you can fit the SSDs in between the actual connector and the chassis, and it feels snug, but isn’t plugged in at all.:blobcat_knife: :blobcat_upsidedown:

So let me get this straight… the indicator is illuminated if it is working, or also if it is not working.
