One of many things I love about the #Dracula theme is that, no matter what program I have in mind, someone seems to have already made a Dracula theme for it.And even if I don't adopt it, seeing how someone applies a familiar "custom" theme really helps me understand a program's built-in styles.Hello, Dracula for #Zettlr: https://github.com/ahollyer/zettlr-dracula

First podcast episode I've listened to in months: the @fossandcrafts "Get Organized" episode! #FossAndCrafts https://fossandcrafts.org/episodes/24-get-organized.html As someone who also has #ADHD && a fondness for the #HipsterPDA, it was really inspiring to hear how these folks support each other && keep refining a system that prioritizes incentives over shame!

A thing I would **adore** for new #ObsidianMd users would be an onboarding website that suggests plug-ins & structures based on a decision tree of some sort.Do you prefer keyboard navigation? Try these plug-ins!Do you prefer automatic, inferred links or do you prefer explicitly writing in your own? Try these approaches!Bonus points for links or curation of actual, stable documentation. Something closer to a wiki, rather than one quadrillion forum posts, rate-limited Medium posts, etc. #pkm

It's excellent that @obsidian worked to make sites published with them more #accessible, as explained here: https://obsidian.md/changelog/2023-04-18-publish/Unfortunately, I still can't widely recommend #Obsidian to colleagues until the program itself is accessible to screen reader users. NVDA is used by almost 60% of screen reader users, according to WebAim: https://webaim.org/projects/screenreadersurvey9/#usedI hope the devs make supporting #NVDA a priority soon: https://forum.obsidian.md/t/accessibility-obsidian-with-screen-readers/19669/13It'd be fantastic to have this and other #a11y improvements added to the Roadmap! https://obsidian.md/roadmap/

Definitely appreciating the ability to just select text, then copy & paste it out of images on iOS.It'd be nice if it had an automatic "de-shout-ify" feature to remove unnecessary all caps as well, but asking for that almost feels greedy.

This here Fediverse has my mind thinking about conjunctural analyses. So here's my narrative careen, with hastags.I went to #UCRiverside for a BA & MA in English. There my fellow students & instructors showed me how a #CulturalStudies influenced rhet-comp #pedagogy can be liberatory (+ why it's necessary but insufficient). From there, I went to a VCS program in Upstate NY. After pursuing more #SoundStudies & #CriticalTheory I received an MA (implied cluster of footnotes here), adjuncted a bit, then went on to #librarianship. From 2015 to 2022 I was a #CommunityCollege #librarian, mostly focused on instruction with critical #InfoLit & more general #CritLib approaches, along with #OpenAccess & #OER. I also started a part-time PhD program in English & the Teaching of English. Now I'm an #InstructionalDesigner at ISU. I'm trying to weave in #a11y & #MediaStudies / systems thinking, plus working on my diss project on informatics/info systems in post-1945 US novels & media.

The distinct confusion of seeing both"Documents may not be copied or duplicated without written permission of (copyright holder, year)."and "CC-BY-NC This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution (etc…)"in the footer of every page of this 20+ page document.

Here's a quick-ish post on how I'm approaching #AcWriMo this year (with some bonus nerdery about #Obsidian folded in).It feels quite appropriate to share this as the dusk gathers on Halloween. After all, as @coachgowron might say, what could be more frightening than confronting self doubt & past failures?https://www.ryanpatrickrandall.com/acwrimo2023Edit on 2023-11-01: Oh! I just saw the tag #AcWriMoND used by @theADHDAcademic & @naomilawsonjacobs — and yes, this is what I need to hear most. What approaches work for my fellow ADHD & other neurodivergent folks?

Chris, when you drive, do you put your car in any lane you choose? Or do you quite reasonably drive on the right side of the road? ("Right" here meaning "appropriate", but I also assume you're in the USA because of your Tulsi Gabbard image.)We humans are very good at understanding the consequences of our actions when the results are immediate and visible. Most of us quickly recognize what's moral and ethical when we know it'll cause harm not just to ourselves but also to others. However, when the results are delayed and distributed among people we don't know, many of us do need to be taught ethics and morals… and these often are underpinned with legal consequences. Please get with the program already: masks and COVID-related protections aren't mere "opinions," they're equivalent to traffic lights and rules. We keep each other safe. And we all need to hear this.@chris @novid

Regarding @/AltTextHealthCheck@mastodon.social results at any given time:I'm all for calling each other in and/or out in order to increase accessibility. But you know what? Not only have I worked with a lot of professors who don't know the basics of alt text or textual equivalents, but I've also worked with a lot of academic librarians who treat it as somehow highly specialized arcane magick and also somehow beneath them. These are people with advanced degrees. Knowledge workers, some of whom are also specifically information workers whose library degree almost certainly involved direct instruction about this at some point.Clown on specific instances if you think it'll be productive. But we all can do better when it comes to alt text and other simple steps toward #accessibility, both online and off.

Do you have so many things to do that you have to write them down?Do you have a (possibly unreasonable) fondness for Markdown? Are you thinking #ObsidianMd could be useful for you?If you've answered "yes" so far, it sounds like we're nerds of a feather. Hey friend! Here's a note I wrote about how I use the Tasks plugin: https://www.ryanpatrickrandall.com/notes/Note-taking/Obsidian/obsidian-tasks-plugin-patternsHopefully it either helps you use the Tasks plugin OR saves you time by helping you figure out what isn't an approach that would work for you!**Edit**: Just updated the examples to properly display the {{query.file.filename}} code. (My website hid the curly braces and everything in between because that pattern looks like Liquid code to a Jekyll-based site.)

@workingonit First check-in of this week:- Practiced Spanish (couple hours; lots of homework) ✅ - Didn't have time to type up any of today's thoughts about my qualifying exam lists… but I do feel more convinced of the substantial changes I drafted over the weekend! ✅ (I also made time to attend @FractalEcho 's #Neurodivergent Burnout webinar on Writing with Executive Dysfunction today, which was very useful! And as they pointed out, dreaming, thinking, or pre-writing also count as writing!)#WorkingOnIt #PhDLife #ADHD #NeurodiverseSquad

Who running Mastodon dot social could possibly imagine that having unrestricted sign-ups and far too few volunteer or paid admins could possibly lead to waves of spam? This whole "internet" thing certainly does not contain any precedents for this sort of behavior or problems of scale.Gotta re-learn everything, every time.

We're not living "in the age of AI". We're living in a moment of unproven AI-related claims. These are profoundly different scenarios. And it's disturbing how many folks in education are eagerly, uncritically amplifying the first framing.
