@0xabad1dea Just for context, Shuttleworth's phrenology-based hiring practices only started around 2018. I worked for Canonical from 2012 to 2020, and my hiring was pretty standard streamlined: screening, manager interview, two tech interviews, offer within a week.HOWEVER, I never went to college (I moved to San Francisco right after high school for the dot-com years), and the hiring insanity applied to internal movement as well. Part of the reason I left was I was told, almost verbatim, "You are no longer qualified for the job you've been doing for 8 years, nor any other job. You won't be dismissed, but you have no prospects."Edit: There were many, many other top-down problems at Canonical, but I was just focusing on the hiring issue above.

@alice"How much is the $7 pizza?" "$10.""How much is the $7 pasta?" "$9.""How much are the $7 breadsticks?" "Do you really need to ask that? ... actually, $7, coincidentally."

@foone Reminds me of the (spoiler-free) epilogue of the first Expanse book. Something like:"Do you think the rights holders will sue me?""Almost certainly, just as soon as they figure out who they are."

@futurebird Interesting, the superstition I learned for loading copy paper into the tray (and still keep doing for my home laser printer) is the exact opposite: you need to fan out the ream a bit before loading it into the tray, to prevent jams.

Oh god, they added Liquid Ass to the LEVEL APP. The horizon indicator isn’t even visible if you’re too close to level, and is distorted everywhere else.

Hey, my dishwasher rinse aid needs to be refilled. If you're seeing this, it means the LG-to-HomeAssistant-to-Mastodon link is still working, but I've likely forgotten this automation pipeline exists.

@discatte I went to see if Adafruit had a response to this (or to their actual shitwadery), and this level of twisting is amazing:> Due to supply changes outside of our control, Adafruit is discontinuing the sale and support of Teensy products.> We were informed by postal mail from SparkFun (the exclusive provider now) that Teensy products will no longer be available to Adafruit. We contacted Paul Stoffregen to confirm, and were told the decision is final.> This decision is based solely on supply availability.https://blog.adafruit.com/2026/01/12/discontinuing-the-teensy-at-adafruit/(And their comments are turned off.)
