@bryan I genuinely cannot remember anyone actually saying it all through highschool. They repeatedly even forgot to do it on the intercom. Most of the rooms did still have flags. Teachers would take them down because they got in the way though.Clearly I didn't go to the most patriotic of schools, but it proves how irrelevant the whole Pledge is now.

@espectalll I don't think a Rust interpreter would be practical. With all the borrow-checking and other compile-time verifications the compiler is already slow. Trying to run all that JIT would cause worse startup lag than the JVM.Though there are a few Rust-inspired scripting languages you could use.https://github.com/gluon-lang/gluon

@bryan Wikipedia says it was standardized and popularized during WWII. So after that and leading into the Cold War, American Patriotism was at high.So yeah you were basically right.

@espectalll wouldn't she turn into a Toad(ette)? Isn't that basically what the original power up that turns Toadette into Peachette proves?Peach is the leader of the Mushroom kingdom, populated by the Toads. It would make sense for her to be one.The crown is magic and causes her to look more "human" which probably aids in diplomacy as a way to combat racism. Works on Mario at least.Yes one random powerup has changed the Mario lore drastically.

@espectalll I love Rust, but it is far from a simple language. Whether that is a good thing or a bad thing is a matter of opinion.Minimalism is C's biggest strength. There isn't a whole lot going on in the language itself, so it's fairly easy to learn and use.

@veer66 @angristan Go 1.0 came out in 2012.Rust 1.0 came out in 2015.While they may have first publicly appeared around the same time Rust spent much longer in pre-1.0So an effectively 3 year gap between Go and Rust. And 3 years can be a long time in tech.

@sirI think it's just Mozilla's testbed for rewriting things in Rust, and parts later get put into Firefox.

@sir For the love of god PLEASE web developers DON'T TOUCH SCROLLING.I have never met a page that did "custom scrolling" in a way that didn't feel awful. And I don't think I ever will.

Forget BnHA, Steins;Gate 0, Persona 5. The SAO spinoff is already the best thing this season.
