It's not a #WealthTax. It's a Guillotine Avoidance Convenience Fee.

@lightweight Really, really annoying trend I saw in the USA last month: surcharges on menus. Sometimes printed on the menu, but sometimes just a delightful surprise on the receipt. "We know we said this burger was $10, but we are paying more for food lately so cough up an extra $0.40."So if the menu price doesn't include, tax, tip *or* the price of the food, what the hell is it for?

@lightweight Put another way, the customer gets to decide how much a glass of Heineken is worth but the owner gets a guaranteed amount and the staff take the hit if there isn't enough to pay them.

@rberger @amiserabilist @farah @Kierkegaanks Also, he'll be an immigrant, and we're not sending any paperwork with him, so he'll be undocumented.

Correction: The unarmed man in the photo is Donato Dalrymple, the fisherman who found five year old Elian adrift near Fort Lauderdale.

@ada We call them pūkeko over here. They're born with what look like full sized feet. Evolution has a sense of humour, sometimes.

@oldclumsy_nowmad @ada 50mm x 35mm, so no, not huge. While looking this up I found out that pūkekos live in polycules and are queer as fuck. Thought the Fediverse would like to know that.
