@aantonop We need to push back on the comments that say for 90% of users a centralised exchange is better. That is completely opposite of the reason for cryptocurrency!

@jeffcliff @mgeist Well as long as the new regulations are targeted at companies like FTX then they will help some investors. But I tend to agree with you, the likely outcome will be some regulation on stable coins or using smart contracts.

@jeffcliff @mgeist I think with stable coins like USDC they will add regulation to hold enough reserves for the assets they have put onchain and they will also require the ability freeze funds. These two things are essentially there already and because corporations and governments are happy with that they won't be nerfed in my opinion.Stable coins like Dai on the other hand are able do things large companies and governments don't like.

@berkes I agree people have to accept if you make something public that it will be indexed. But people can also ask the servers they share their data with to accept the terms of sharing and try to live up to these terms.But yes it likely will get indexed somehow by some computer that doesn't care about your terms.

The Likely reason why Jack (Old Birdsite CEO) is building on his own open protocol for an open social media and not ActivityPub is because he believes he needs to find a path to profitability for success.This is faulty logic. @jeffcliff Same reason I don't want to have to depend on Facebook and Twitter to be social online. I like Open protocol social media.Same reason I don't want to have to depend on MS or Apple for my operating system. I like Linux.

@jeffcliff @molly0xfff I do not stop using encrypted chat or stop using VPNs because the encryption is potentially flawed.I think an activist working in a authoritarian regime has more to lose by trusting "crypto" than myself with some disposable income at risk.

@jeffcliff @molly0xfff Any risk to traditional finance will not come from cryptocurrency itself yet. it is not big enough. The risks to traditional finance comes from traditional corporations allowing leverage trading with assets they do not even have. This is a traditional finance issue, not a cryptocurrency issue.
