Went to Swindon last weekend. Don't especially recommend the town, but the Computing Museum there is cool!Programmed #BASIC on a BBC MicroComputer (1981). Also played Zelda: Ocarina of Time on a #Nintendo64, Duck Hunt on #SNES, and used an Apple iMac G3The museum also had an Xbox One and a Nintendo Switch, feels a bit soon

My blog now shows likes from the fediverse. To like a post, you just need to favorite my toot sharing the post. The only remaining thing to complete #IndieWeb backfeeding is to show fediverse replies on my blog, I don't think I'll do this as it seems like a privacy issue. Thanks to the maintainers of brid.gy and #webmention.io for making such great services freely available

I really hate it when sites redirect to their home page rather than showing a 404 Not found page, it's so annoying. Actually, I hate when sites just break useful URLs

@kyleI learned to program using Scratch when I was 11. It's really good for seeing the results of what you make on your screen, very approachable

I've been playing #OpenTTD for years and only just discovered that you can ctrl+click with signals to set them at a fixed distance on an entire route at once, including extra signals just before tunnels and bridges. I had been doing straight lines at a timeThis makes laying track so much easier!

I've also discovered that #OpenTTD's town growth algorithms *suck*.Using the "better roads" is slightly better as it avoids the city adding loads of single road blocks. But the town grown algorithm is a random walk that gives up after a while. So to make big cities you need to have few junctions or use tunnels from the center of the city to the outskirts. LameAlso, all you need to get maximum growth are 5 active stations. The % coverage or passengers above that doesn't matter!

Another thing I've discovered recently in #OpenTTD is Cargo Distribution. It makes passenger networks so much more viable as passengers have a destination in mind. So a passenger will go house -> bus -> train -> bus -> house in another city. Without this, the closest you'd get is with transfer orders. When this is enabled, there's a graph of network load shown by long-pressing the map icon (not very discoverable!)

Whenever I connect to public WiFi that asks for an email address, I always enter an address on the same domain that's asking. Like hello@publicwifi.net. Very few forms actually check for it and they just let you connect without verificationI opt into marketing emails, of course

@stfn another side effect is that the fediverse makes back link finders pretty useless - suddenly there are thousands of domains linking to your site.Ahref at least ranks by domain authority, but the results are limited and there are sometimes lower authority personal sites I'd like to see. Google web console just does A-Z

@stfn I have a script that tails my logs to find backlinks using referrer - refback. Most browsers have changed the default to only expose the domain name, rather than the path, so finding back links by referrer is pretty useless these days unfortunately

@GinaYeah this is my view too - having a far right mod is not good. Moderators are representatives of the project. It doesn't matter that moderation is a group thing and auditableBut also the reaction from other servers and users is incredibly toxic, and the move to defederate so quickly without any actual harm is damaging to the fediverse as a whole
