       There is a new social media platform that is impossible to censor.It's a file on your computer you just write your thoughts in.  Journal entries.  I like org-mode in emacs personally.Benefits:* no ads* strong privacy* censorship-resistant* distraction-freeHowever, it shares many of the downsides of mastodon and other Twitter-likes:* very little engagement* few active users, not much in the way of network effects* most people are on Twitter and not in your journal on your computer.

       Part of me wonders if young communists in western capitalist nations are not naive socialist idealists but rather geopolitical reactionaries hedging their bets on Chinese economic and military dominance in the 21st century.

       @tek this happens to me as well. basically if they use google maps they will find me, and if they use apple maps they won't. so that is a factor on whether they will get lost, give up, and invent a story that makes them look better.

       @tek @dpreacher I my case it is not necessarily a jab at Apple Maps, just a specific fact that it systematically gets the route wrong near my home and sends people a way that won't work
