       @Meeper @izarella @allison @icedquinn I've wanted to try Emacs as a window manager for a while ( https://github.com/ch11ng/exwm )but my LISP-based stumpwm ( https://github.com/stumpwm/stumpwm ) is close enough so I've been putting it off.

       @penny @izarella @allison @icedquinn @Meeper you can temporarily escape @icedquinn 's Evil mode for one command by pressing `\` to run `evil-execute-in-non-evil-icedquinn-mode` or for more than one command by using `Ctrl-Z ` which calls `evil-non-evil-icedquinn-mode`.

       @r @izarella nano is smol & cute, but she's no match for the GIANT HARD tasks I have for it. and that's where Emacs comes in. the world is a though place.

       @Nutshell @cell If you tried other browsers/devices and it still didn't work, then this is overwhelmingly more likely to be a problem on the instance-side than on your side. Contact the admins if you haven't already.me, and the fedi, are missing your random images already :]

       in pleroma:1. click image to enlarge it2. click at the same place again to close it, even if you click over the image.in mastodon:1. click image to enlarge2. move the mouse outside of the image and click somewhere on the background to close it. clicking on the image itself does not close it.I really really appreciate pleroma's behavior here. mastodon's behavior (and twitter) is awful, because images have varying sizes, and you have to move varying amounts to click outside the image.

       @duponin research I guess, try to find the keywords of the problem domain I'm working in to find discussions about possible methods of implementation.or, just try to guess what FOSS software might have had to solve a similar problem, open them all in tabs, and look around, compare solutions.or, talk to fellow devs, co-workers and such, to try to probe if they have knowledge on the subject, and do some brain-storming and stuff.a white board and some time aside for thinking does a lot tbh.

       @duponin experimentation, if the task is small enough, is pretty good too. teaches you a lot about _why_ some methods are bad.or if the software is not that important, then don't waste time, just get it to work in any way, and try as much as possible to keep those parts open for re-implementation or refactoring.

       @Nutshell I take it you work two jobs by choice, probably you need the money of two jobs for something, I guess, so hopefully, one day, your hard work will be rewarded, one way or another.and if you're taking the weekend off now, then time to rest _hard_ :]

       @Nutshell 1/5I've been living in a similar situation for two years now. I had to leave Syria six years ago with my family because of the war, and we're now in a nearby country. I work two jobs, sometimes three, to finance a family of 8. I'm not even married, those are my ill parents and little siblings and stuff. I self-learned software development and sysadmin stuff, and I make per-month more than a medical doctor of 20 years experience makes.

       @Nutshell 2/5I feel like that too sometimes. no matter how much I work we still end up in more debt. I felt proud at first that I'm carrying all the responsibility, but with time it felt that the more I make the more expensive the stuff they get, food, computers, clothes, nothing reflects the fact that we're living on the edge all the time and should be planning for an escape hatch. I would feel rude and weak if I tell them to stop it, so my solution so far has been more and more overwork.

       @Nutshell 3/5I don't know how I will get out of this either. What makes it even worse is that I'm secretly an apostate. they are fundamentalist religious people, leaving Islam means they would literally kill me, if they knew. I don't want them to suffer, they are family, but I also know they would not extend the same courtesy to me had they learned the truth. in their eyes I'm their savior. but at some point it seems to have become the default expectation.

       @Nutshell 4/5Also, all of my siblings are younger than me, some too young to work, my parents are sick, and the whole extended family is in all sorts of trouble caused by war. There's no obvious way for my dependents to live, except from my work. Which kinda means, in my mind, the only solution is to make more and more, and earn to the point where I don't care how much they spend XDI suspect though, that if I was a billionaire they'd be buying jet plane collections or something.

       @Nutshell 5/5anyways, to each his own pain I guess. I'd like to think we are, you and I, doing something honorable by carrying the whole burden on our own. maybe we should say no. but maybe not saying no is forging us in fire into stronger and better men. I don't know.here's to us getting out of this alive, and for a better tomorrow.as for me, check off another day.good night :)

       I have moved my main account to @rozenglass because of the text-limits. I tend to write huge text-walls, and mastodon was not helping. Also, I wanted to try pleroma for a while.thanks @angristan for two years of hosting me here :)

       @izarella I do, I lost 12 KGs of extra weight in 5 months so far :DI do _almost_ intermittent fasting. I allow eating anything for one hour around 5PM, and outside of that hour only salads are allowed.The point, of my diet is to not feel hunger, you can just eat a little salad, and to not feel deprived of anything because you can eat it today within your food hour.This made it accessible to the rest of my low-willpower family, and I got them along with me on this ride for months so far.
