@art@peertube.linuxrocks.online I really think the future of online communities is lots more smaller groups. We've seen what happens on the massive platforms, and it's just a bunch of gaming by spammers, bots, and trolls. Facebook/Google don't care, because they're making money anyway, but it's an awful user experience. When your community only has a few thousand people, nefarious agents get found out and kicked out rather quickly.

@PirateRobotFromMars@fosstodon.org @ffeth@mastodon.gougere.fr Sepia Search is the best answer so far, probably. I do wish there was a better way to distinguish the different instances, because I think they fall into three categories:1. Instances that want to replicate YouTube (i.e. be a dumping-ground for content). These ones are getting overwhelmed with questionable content right now.2. Instances that limit content. Blender, PrivacyTools, TILvids, etc. These ones are less open to everyone, but are solving the questionable content problem.3. Instances that are personal. These ones are mostly meant for friends/family, and don't necessarily have (or even want) a broader audience.Right now, those are all getting lumped together, and I think it's doing a disservice to the community, because it's a confusing experience to new users.
