@tomasino I had gotten rust on what the difference was as well. This medium article did a great job of reminding me.https://medium.com/@mirandarevans/whats-the-deal-with-hard-links-and-symbolic-links-b8bb6b2d4343

@aparrish I feel like libraries and librarians need to own this a little too. In my classes it's nothing but social media cheerleading. If someone raises these issues (or privacy issues) there's crickets for a response. Librarians need to start discussing corporate, centralized social media as a (un?)necessary evil. @ruth

Ok. As someone who is out of the loop, is there something going on with mastodon.social?

How long are #librarians going to continue to do the wrong thing for their patrons for the sake of convenience? #libraries need to stop the use of corporate social media cold.https://www.propublica.org/article/facebook-blocks-ad-transparency-tools

@UberGeek Maybe my phrasing wasn't as accurate as I wanted it to be:"need to stop the use of corporate social media cold."I'm not interested in stopping people from accessing information. Absolutely not. What I wished I had said was "Libraries need to stop _using_ corporate social media." I can see that what I actually wrote (too quickly and without proofreading) comes of really wrong. @Fabioandthefabulousfappers

@popey , Can you offer any tips on how to run snaps from a virtual desktop (vncserver). I keep getting "cannot connect to display :1" errors. Thanks.

@fitheach Do you already have another instance of it running? You could try firefox --no-remote to avoid it connecting to an existing browser?

@cosullivan Maybe give qwant.com a try? I see in their upper-right corner they allow to select your search area.

@thomasfuchs I didn't even see the touchpad, I was just busy being horrified by the, what is that thing? a start menu? But yeah, there's no way I'd use a touchpad like that.
