@stux it isn't even a federation really. It is a set of subdued nations, that don't have any sort of independence from Moscow. The Russian army is meant to keep on an eye on all of Russia, so that it wouldn't fall apart ( in case some parts of the courtry would want complete independence).

@stux This is a reason why we should cherish EU. It is not perfect, but in comparison to USA is way more competent. As an example the way congress and EU were questioning Zuckerberg back in 2018 is were this difference is the most noticeable.

@stux @notjustbikes this is a dream. When I tell my friends how cool it is to bike everywhere, they just don't get it. Car is seen as something luxurious and comfortable. To me bike is true freedom. Especially, when I see electric bikes, makes me think it is magic.

@stux @notjustbikes I wonder, when the weather is bad. It is raining or snowing. Do people completely abandon bikes as a main transport or just wait for rain to stop and then keep going ? Thanks.

@stux I wonder, do you see ukrainians begging on the streets? Because, I am pretty certain, that the vast majority is working and trying to assimilate with society, by learnign language for example. I know it might sound conceited, but ukrainians are not the kind of people who would sit on their ass all day.

@stux This has been going for a while. I feel like we start noticing some things only after they happen to us personally. And war in Ukraine does feel personal for many Europeans. It is a bad comparison, but I started noticing more people on bikes ones I myself made a switch.

@stux some people make argument like "look at Israel, they don't need to rely on USA to defend themselves". Don't also forget that Ukraine's enemy is one of the biggest armies in the world. It doesn't make them competent, but military might does not compare to hamas.

@stux Many people is russia see putin as a source of stability, They genuinly believe, that other states are envy, that they have such a strong leader. My english teacher, who is originally from russia moved back there. She was tired of choosing presidents every 5 years and told me how everyting is stable there. Her mind set hasn't changed since the days of USSR. You know what they say, you can take a girl from russia, but you can't take russia from a girl.

@stux It also struck me recently, that mastodon is just a break free from Twitter and the like, but also from messaging apps. Telegram and Whatsapp are all in to creating channels, cause they know it creates a lock in.
