@stux Heyy, samies! I got home server for over 15 years, but I had to shut it down lately due to energy crisis. Moved all the stuff to remote virtual servers. More energy efficient this way. No fun fiddling with hardware though... Thankfully gigabyte speeds are quite the standard nowadays in Europe so there's really no difference latency wise. @dragon

Pros and cons of #Mastodon:Pros:+ Open source+ Decentralized+ Super fast+ Twitter-like interface+ You own your own data+ Lots of tools and ways to contribute Cons:- Limited app(s)- Difficult to have "one feed for all" from all instances- It gets a long time to grow a good base bubble- Feels like Facebook groups all over again- All your toots are in one basket- Decentralization is hard to grasp- Some rule-based instances can limit your presenceStill kinda intrigued.

Why I'm suddenly so anxious about 1) the performance of this Mastodon server as I want it to be 10000% snappy 2) the fear of it to end. Everything ends some day, it's inevitable so maybe I should just #mementomori and let it go. :bulbasaurroll:

@otso Yeah, we have "pikkulauantai", but in Finland its meaning is 100% related to alcohol. I used to like it but now after being over two years sober I don't need it.

I love Mastodon ❤️ In my first real Mastodon post I proclaimed that decentralization on the Internet is great, but it doesn't come to fruition as good as possible on Fediverse, because the migration is not easy and people's minds can change about the rules and instances and where they want to be.As I still agree that posts would need to be migrated more easily (I feel for mastodon.technology users), I have completely changed my mind about #Mastodon. It's the best thing ever.Glad to be here.☕
