The exodus of Indian Twitter to Mastodon is both sad and heartening. I hope Twitter crumbles under the weight of the abuse it perpetuates and initiates.

Fascists and neo-Nazis will eventually discover this space, so we need to make the most of our first-mover advantage.

I'm grateful that this conversation happened on the Birdsite. Five days ago. CC: @Shudraism

@Mimi1234 It's still a good thing that people have accounts here and are aware of alternative platforms. My sense of things is that Twitter's actions in India are part of larger institutional capture, which means more & more people will find themselves de-platformed or locked out.

@Mimi1234 Mastodon is open source, doesn't have a revenue model. Wikipedia's contributors, for example, are not paid for encyclopedic writing but we've kept the show running for about 18 years.

@vikramhegde truth be told, your city is not in the pick-up line phase anymore. It's closer to "choke me".

A patch of farmland surrounded by the city, trash, and construction debris. (Hi-Tech City, #Hyderabad, but this could be the outskirts of any metropolis in India.)

Typewriters are still around on Mumbai's sidewalks, outside big government offices. Affidavits, stamp papers and notaries. If you come to Mysore, I'll show you the street where we find them outside goverment offices. #Mumbai #Mysore #travel #typewriters
