@Gargron Fwiw I always saw it as a way to credit the original post while staying out of the reply thread. A way to use the original as a jumping off point for a new post, maybe tangential, without hijacking the discussion or being argumentative. I understand how it can be co-opted but it doesn’t seem especially geared toward abuse. I don’t see it as a “problem” that’s it’s not here, but…

@web3isgreat I have no idea if this kind of lawsuit has merit but I would hope so. Now that integrity and reputation are minor aspects of celebrity at most, there needs to be some reason for them to consider carefully whether they want to be associated with dubious and predatory products and services.

It works for large and small content producers, with the level of complexity (and expense) seamlessly scaling up and down with the scale and scope of the audience. Unlike any other platform – all far more limited – it respects the distributed nature of the open internet, and so can reflect the realities of local economies.This doesn't even scratch the surface of what makes the web amazing.It's beautifully elegant.

@wjmaggos @z428 Let's hope (and work to see) that Mastodon and other federated services continue to thrive. Ultimately I think we need new ideas, not about technology, but what 'success' looks like and new ways to pursue and sustain healthy platforms. When the most successful platforms are popular for the reasons they are bad, that's a real riddle.There is no small amount of learning involved and that's tough for us, individually and collectively.

The seeming inevitably of tech replacing jobs stems entirely from people, not the tech. There is nothing inevitable about technology itself, or any specific use for tech.It's becoming clearer everyday that's a bad thing. What we're seeing with technology advancement is that a lot of the good in the world has been imposed by outside forces and barriers stopping or slowing the worst human tendencies.I'm not sure where we go from here. Something else is becoming clearer…
