@simon I think Data is constrained somewhat by physics so he’s unable to reproduce or create visual works of art at anywhere the scale of what something midjourney or adobe’s AI can do. So in that sense it seems a little more fair. Now, imagine if he left the fleet and put up a shingle as an an independent commercial illustrator or writer and he was commissioned to do pieces in the style of artists. I think many would frown on this. 1/n

@jason @shacker I recently had to use it for work to promote a job posting and it is like a weird Facebook where people just post about work, how cool their work is, work hacks, work philosophy, and so on. And all the memes are serious and are more akin to inspirational posters you’d find in an office. But, it’s pretty much what talent folks use to funnel candidates, at least in the tech industry

It's winter (yes, even here in SoCal) and it always makes me want to start a BBS! lol. I checked the modified files in my project directory on my computer and, sure enough, I was messing around with compiling Renegade around end of November into December. Back in the day when I ran an actual BBS in El Paso, winter was the season for calling.Don't see the point to having one anymore, maybe I'll start my own mastodon instance or something.#bbs #nostalgia #retrocomputing

@paradroyd oh yeah, for sure. in fact, that December I got a version of my bbs up and running and you could just log in via a terminal emulator in a browser over web sockets ... but, I had no real thing to build community around so I turned it off. If I ran a retro hardware shop or if I ever start making retro games I might stand one up to provide support and community.For now, I think I'm just gonna go lurk in other people's BBSes for a while.

@paradroyd Back when I had a dial in BBS, must have been late 80s ... I provided access to Bluewave and Fidonet and provided support for these little BBS utilities I used to write: stuff that would generate statistics about your BBS and render them into a file with fANSI colors which you'd then serve your users when they logged in. It was fun!
