We conclude that ''creatio ex nihilo'' can in fact be observed. The evidence is that something was there when we looked at nothing, and we infer that something was created. Further study of this phenomenon is warranted.

I tried the #chatgpt on twitter that's running on the main guy's laptop. This version can take a day to respond, or a few minutes, depending on whatever.So I start asking about (what else?) category theory.It says it doesn't know ncatlab and gives a stock answer about not going out to the broader internet for answers; fair enough.Gives me a definition of a category, blazingly superficial but adequate to get going. Tempted to say it was dead wrong, dreadfully bad bad, cannot be allowed to stand, but OK...Now it's time to hit it.I want to know about a relation between a certain two categories. First it crashes, next go round gives me a passable but one-sided version, where I'm pretty sure there's really a duality at bottom and I really want to tease out the idea of this.On further questioning it has forgotten everything and doesn't know about the first of the original categories. Come to suspect it had some accidental training on the second category that included a side remark on the first, hence the asymmetry. One could argue that the surface factoid that it originally answered obscures a simple, deeper truth.Chatgpt is certainly interesting; I might still try the sign-up version. What is astounding is that GPT3 is a big language model, if you can believe that, knowing only words as tokens in how they appear in context of other tokens.What they did with chatgpt was use v.3.5, which is capable of engaging in a true back-and-forth conversation, not being restricted to a single question and answer. Hence the internet blows up and Elon tweets about it within a day.GPT4 will be more of the same; they promise a massive bump in the number of parameters.But knowledge is more than language and its proper use by a person or whomever. One needs to have some grounding in the fabric of the world.Someone said that chatgpt acts, not human, but "human adjacent", which seems to capture what it is now.I'm still looking for that shotgun rider, steering me through the morass of math, gently coaching and having some model for how I engage. Might still sign up anyways; it actually is marvelous.
