       also yes, you can get #FreeDOS on a CD image with a bunch of extra programs, or on 6 floppy disk images! (or even more if you go for lower-density floppy types)

       i like the pop-ups that explain all the features, because sure, the concepts of the modern desktop paradigm are pretty well-known at this point, but windows 95 literally invented it, like they had to tell people about the right mouse button and the task bar and the long file names

       googling the error message led me to a message board that told people to disable VT-x/AMD-V and Nested Paging, but i can't do that bc i'm running the virtual machine in KVM/QEMU

       correction: i can run it without those virtualization techniques!all i need to do is launch qemu directly and then specify the machine as isapc apparentlynow i'm supposed to boot into safe mode and run some sort of amdk6fix to help it work

       fun fact: virt-manager may not show sb16 as a valid sound card model that qemu supports, but you can type it manually and it will work! i wonder if the same will work if i specify cirrus as the graphics card, because i don't want to be stuck at 640x480 16 colors for this thing
