@david One of the features of Hell in Old Harry's Game is the Pope Enclosure, where all the popes are eternally pregnant.https://www.test.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00fgs8s/episodes/player

@violetblue While getting stuck in the sand might be considered unfortunate, parking on a crosswalk suggests active assholery.

Does anyone know why this happens? I fill a kettle with tap water to just below the maxiumum level, and it boils without overflowing. So far so good. If I fill it with recycled water from a hot water bottle to that level or slightly less, it foams furiously and overflows if I don't catch it in time.I have no idea why.

@bodhipaksa The hot water bottle is rubber, but I only use the recycled water to refill it. (Still not summer here in Scotland, single figures in centigrade at night.) I always use tap water for tea.

@rvinson @lednaBM @504DR @hamishb @dnavinci @BenAveling @nonehitwonder @starlily @Goldfigure @bhasic @bigheadtales @mintyfresh It's an interesting theological problem. I'm pretty sure the gods don't exist, but anti-theists seem compelled to reinvent them as straw men for a good knock-down, drag-out argument to prove to themselves that the gods don't exist.

@futurebird We know from South Park that only Mormons go to Heaven. Do you have a link to this video - it sounds fascinating.

@futurebird So essentially Mormonism is a spiritual MLM scheme. Most religions fudge the theological details, but these people have really thought it through.

@interfluidity This is why ebooks and ereaders were always a corporate bait and switch. You actually own real books.

@dgar From Keynesian point of view, UBI makes a lot of sense. The money goes to people who will spend it locally, creating new jobs and taxes, and so on. It's a virtuous cycle.

@futurebird I also started out with good intentions. Now most files are a pile of stuff on the hard drive. Particularly photos, thousands of them, which are inaccessible because I have to sift through the whole heap to find the one I'm looking for.

I don't understand this celebrity thing of thinking they're natural writers of children's books. Partly it's because they have a pre-existing fanbase who are low-hanging fruit, and perhaps the slebs think this is the easiest genre to write, but it doesn't translate into competence. Leave children's books to the professionals.@bookstodon https://www.theguardian.com/food/2024/nov/09/jamie-oliver-apologises-after-childrens-book-criticised-for-stereotyping-first-nations-australians-ntwnfb

@futurebird Creating a common and ineradicable bacteria that eats plastic and breaks it down into organic elements. Just waiting for when it's needed.

@pluralistic The sad thing about Careless People is that it's bookended by delusions. Sarah Wynn-Williams starts out all gung-ho about the possibility of FB as a force for good. It begins with her pitching for a job there.Then the scales fall from her eyes, but it takes far longer than it should do. That's the nature of a cult.It ends with a coda in which she's similarly gung-ho about AI, and pitching for a job in that industry.

@Nonilex The IOC is as corrupt an organisation as the GOP. They extort those cities gullible enough to spend huge amounts of taxpayers' money on a temporary sporting event.The IOC is like the flying island of Laputa in Gulliver's Travels, hovering over cities and syphoning up resources to feed its continued existence.https://www.latimes.com/sports/olympics/story/2023-06-20/paris-olympic-organizers-investigation-raid-corruption-probe

@Nonilex Perhaps Trump wants a nuclear bunker in the basement. More to seal himself in after losing the next election. Him and the Stepford fascists holed up there so nobody can get them out.
