@textfiles Yes! This is amazing! We are definitely in the wrong timeline where Palm OS isn't the dominant mobile platform.

Anyone who has followed me over the past while probably knows that I got my Amiga 1200 online briefly, only for it to not connect via Ethernet again.Well, I finally have it continually connecting online after each reboot! It only took me to bin Roadshow as a TCP/IP interface in favour of the classic MiamiDX.It's MUCH easier to use and actually goes online! If you are having similar problems, I highly recommend using MiamiDX.#Commodore #Amiga

How did Windows & MS-DOS ever take hold?Windows 3.1 is absolutely shambolic in terms of an GUI OS. MS-DOS pales in comparison to Linux.Amiga OS and Mac OS were far better options during the early Windows era. Both had some form of multitasking (Amiga did), intuitive design, not hampered by obscure drivers on multiple floppies...This 486 laptop is absolutely paralysed by a lack of software due to a non working floppy. Is there a way I can create a hard disk file on modern Windows for it?!

@mmu_man it's so much easier on the Amiga front. 😂I'll have to explore QEMU again as I used it to set up my Mac G3 a few years ago.

@mmu_man Yeah, I must admit that I've never gotten down and dirty with Windows like I have with other OSes. I'm not a software engineer by any stretch (fire service and education is my trade) but Windows made everything really difficult until Windows 98 and XP.In fact, XP was probably one of their best releases in terms of support and just 'working'.

@mmu_man Hah! And here you are helping me with finding a modern solution to creating a hard disk file for a shitty OS from the early to mid 90s.I can say one thing... My brief dalliance with Linux via Linux Mint and Raspberry Pi has been very intuitive. I can't say the same about early Windows.

Can I just say something?I fucking hate modern Windows computers. The amount of hoop jumping you have to do to get even the most basic things to work is infuriating.Want to play a Blu-ray file? "LOL! NO!"I don't even think the Amiga has this many issues these days (apart from *ahem* getting Roadshow TCP/IP to work).

@jpfox I've been looking for a solution to this for an age! I'd love a distraction free method of reading my news offline on my T3 whilst travelling.

I'm absolutely exhausted after last night and today's shenanigans, but it's safe to say that Base Arcade in Belfast was a success again!I was responsible for curating and setting up the console and computer area and it was a big hit with attendees!I'll no doubt post a video up tomorrow of the full arcade with its cabinets and pinball tables.Big props to the guys at Base Arcade for a very successful venture so far.#arcade #pinball #gaming #retrogaming #ireland

Something unexpected came into my possession.I happened to be browsing some local ads online this morning and found an Amiga 1000... The ORIGINAL Amiga... for sale!£20.It cost me £20.After some serious cleaning, it's a thing of beauty! And it boots! No software seems to work from floppy disk but I'm just glad I get the initial boot screen.

The original owner was incredibly interesting and lovely, and he was someone who used it for video titling and graphics overlays, hence the genlock it came with. This machine also has a 2MB RAM sidecar expansion and a 256KB RAM expansion cartridge in the front panel. The previous owner said that it cost him £1700 in 1986, and the RAM expansion cost another £700! 😬

I already have some future ideas to bring this computer into a more usable state, due to the floppy drive not booting software, but for now I'll just appreciate how lovely it is and how lucky I am!#computing #retrocomputing
