Great to see you here @gretathunberg Here's a widely ignored environmental topic you should consider championing that will only get worse...https://fosstodon.org/@richard4444/109304414578316416

@matty01 Probably depends on your Android distroCustom ROMs or messing with bootloaders can eventually open the door to stuff not cooperating or dying. At a time not of your choosing. It's less about customisation, and more about messes that come from breaking/bypassed X to do y. Analogous to maintaining a v custom Win sys, Vs native customisability of LinuxOk, if you don't mind / have a spare phone. But I personally couldn't afford that risk of time loss on a mission critical device anymore

@sp6ina @matty01 @dazinism An open phone does address many problems. Being sure you can run whatever you need for employment remains important for most people. It might not fit with ideals, but try working without MSFT non-open MFA (where call and SMS options can be disabled). Just one example to be very sure about on a forward looking basis....

@ParadeGrotesque They are totally right. Linux and other open source software are not safe, hence they are never used for servers. Legal are clearly better informed and know this well:linus: :linux: 📝 🚔 👨‍✈️ :androidalt: :fosstodon: 🖊️ :xmonad: :vim: :idle:

@ParadeGrotesque My instincts remain sceptical also, but events have not just superseded MSFT, the company has matured into them (in the sense of adult maturity)

@ParadeGrotesque Agreed, and we need better antimonopoly/competition/antitrust/anticartel law and enforcement everywhere. Especially in the US. Europe can be better-ish (but I'm not convinced the Europe would condemn domestic giants as vigorously). But that doesn't just apply to MSFT and would affect others, including other tech giants.(Please stop making me defend MSFT....!)
