@Soy_Boy it’s pretty simple! just a limit switch that’s linked to the roller door locking mechanism. door locked = lights no power

@SuricrasiaOnline this is why I think it’s important to understand a layer or two under where you’re working. I was doing some stuff where we were configuring some prebuilt software, and in our case it was really slow. Turns out the setup was to process thousands of tiny files at a time (instead of a few dozen larger ones), and opening/closing files has an overhead. Changing to fewer, larger files solved the problem.

@SuricrasiaOnline that being said, falling through the “hardware is consistent” abstraction is probably going to be pretty disorientating no matter which level you started from

@SuricrasiaOnline at that level, I’d probably blame cosmic rays and try to move on with my life. Or just hack it till it “works”, shifting the layers of cheese so they don’t line up any more

I run manjaro on both my laptop and desktop, and today I realised that I can just rsync my pacman cache to each other (via my server) to mean that I don't download stuff more than once

@vidak oh nice, yeah it's one of those things that I went "why didn't I think of this sooner?"reading the arch wiki, it seems like it's a common thing for people to mount a server's cache at /var/cache/pacman, do their pacman installations/updates and then unmount it

@vidak I prefer the rsync method though - less messing around with making sure the cache folder is clean, and it's something I can just stick in my crontab(s)

Was dog sitting my parents pupper for the last few weeks, but now he’s on a plane to Adelaide (where they’ve moved). I think the poor fella was pretty nervous, but I took him for a couple of long runs today so hopefully he’ll be tuckered out enough to sleep
