@feld @tk @maddiefuzz 85mm is gold standard, 50 is considered "normal" for most photography but not great for portraits.

@void @tk @feld @maddiefuzz Not about the crop (I could always move closer to my subject). It's about distortion. Different shaped glass (35mm vs 50mm vs 85 or 100mm) simply bend the light differently. It tends to be most noticeable with people (because things closer like the end of the nose get exagerated at small mms) or architecture because the bending of light (and therefore lines in walls/etc) are more obvious. At lot can be fixe din post, not all.

@feld @tk @maddiefuzz I'm a macro fan so 90mm macro and blurry background is my JAM. But it is less about the blurry background than about how features are distorted or not and what looks *most pleasing* to folks. 🤷♀️ Preferences vary, rules of thumb are meant to be broken. ;)

I'm struck by the difference in culture between social media sites. Instagram started as art, and has become simply advertising & scams. Facebook has devolved into sharing "heartwarming cringe videos" and ads. Twitter was my place for a long time, I found great community there. HOWEVER. Since coming here I'm noticing: Twitter is a rage machine. Designed to keep us mad and yelling 24/7.And I only noticed bc here: none of that. #twittermigration

@lauren Ours both come for the most part. But it is clearly an earned thing, they love and trust us and they know we don't call them for no reason. And so the accept the invitation when we offer it. Honestly our corgi has WAY crappier recall than our Maine Coon cat.

I don't know who needs to hear this. But you can have a lawn without watering it, without fertilizing it, and without using pesticides. You can have a place for kids/dogs/you to play without any of that (desert excepted). Mow it tall to retain moisture, it'll include lots of things OTHER than just grass. Keep it small and let most areas be prairie (plant native) or garden, etc. But lawn itself isn't evil, it is the modern obsession with monoculture and perfection.
