What I can offer for big-machine enthusiasts is a set of occasionally maintained Docker recipes for various emulators. They include SIMH, Hercules and others.https://github.com/retroprom/docker

I'm playing with two Palm m515 that I rescued from a "get rid" pile a while back. The software on them does not impress me too much because I am a systems person, but the industrial design is really sweet. Four screws, one spudge, and it's readily maintainable. We could build more modern boards for them, no problem - because the design is clean and uses no adhesives. We could build like this today, it would be a blast!

For the moment I'm a Palm junkie. Even the age-old Lithium batteries still hold up great. A friend had some spare 512M SD cards that I am now using, and they are still pretty oversize for these devices with their 33 MHz M68000 core. Unfortunately most apps for the platform are shareware, but there is some decent open-source too. I'm surprised that there is no collection image that you can just stick in your reader.Do we have a Mastodon solution for PalmOS 4 yet?

The architecture of PalmOS is curious because it originated as a single-address-space system without a real file system. On the M68k they don't even have memory protection, so keeping your Palm stable is a bit of an art if you also want customization - but it is quite patchable and hookable due to its small size. The spirit of the system is somewhere between a minimalist Macintosh and business Windows. Like all early handhelds they try to be consistent but struggle to achieve it. Quality and style of apps is all over the place.I'm curious how it works inside. Let's read some docs!

IBM mainframe fans might be interested in the MVS/CE distribution of MVS 3.8J. This system is built on a Python bootstrap so that the system generation can be modified and extended, and it supports a package manager called MVP written in Rexx.#mainframe #retrocomputing #hercules #mvs #mvsce https://github.com/MVS-sysgen/sysgen
