Ordered a #Thermaltake Smart 700W 80+ P/S from #Amazon over the weekend. Received it yesterday and installed. This morning no good. Tried two others (one new and one used) from inventory--it's the Thermaltake. Now waiting for Amazon rep to call me back after talking with Thermaltake. Better not hassle me over this. I've installed a hell of a lot of units over the past 30 years. First time one failed the day after I installed it. 😠

@cozy Thanks. Yeah, not fun. Replacing a P/S takes only a few minutes, but the hassle was in trying a couple of others to be sure it wasn't the motherboard. Then I decided to replace the failing fan in the original P/S. I pulled one from an under-powered P/S that was to be thrown out and now the original not only works great, but is keeping the PC cooler than before. At this point, I'd rather send them back their unit and get a refund, but whatever, as long as I get my money's worth.

Two hours after the promised tech support callback from Amazon: no word. Screw it. I filled out an RMA request and shipped the unit back to the seller. Normally I would have done this first, but this one time I thought I would talk to tech support to see if I had happened to miss something. A waste of time. No one cares. Failure is just another option on the list of acceptable choices. smh

'Token' Package Protection. Obviously, the 'protection' material must cost more than the products being protected by it. 🙄

Started watching (again) the Initial D Anime series. I think this is the second time this year. I wish the producers would make more episodes, and Funimation (or other dubcast magicians) dub it in English. No other street racer theme like it. #initiald #anime http://justdubs.org/watch-initial-d-english-dubbed

I have a lot more reorganizing and construction to do in the dungeon workshop, but I can no longer put off the gifts I have to make for Christmas giving. The first one is for the wife. It's a simple project: making the handle out of white oak. https://www.woodcraft.com/products/woodriver-16-rocking-pizza-cutter-kit-woodriver #giftmaking #projects #christmas #runningoutoftime

The wife and I are firm believers that agitators in washers are a necessity. We've had one of the 'less' models and it was replaced within six months of purchase because of problems and poor performance. And it took FO-EV-ER to do a wash load. However, this evening one problem unique to agitator models happened to us: the infamous 'coin-jammed-between-the-agitator-and-tub' scenario. I could only get at and remove the wedged coin by using a pair of stainless steel surgical clamps. Yeah me. 🙄

The highlight of the day was the wife picking out an anniversary ring. She's always wanted one, and I have to agree: a forty year wait is long enough. I decided to get myself a nice silicone wedding band designed for those who work with their hands, especially around power tools. My original band was lost/stolen a year-and-a-half after we married. I haven't really replaced it for two reasons: cost and I can't stand wearing rings--safety, foremost in the latter. Mine comes in Monday. 🤔

I was impressed with the company owner's 'shpeal' on why his silicone rings are the best on the market. The wife liked my choice, which to both of us seemed reflective of a woodworker/maker's choice. We will see how comfortable it is after a full day's wear.

I should be working on gifts I'm behind on, but after a couple of hours of putzing around in the dungeon workshop, I was feeling cold and apathetic. So screw it. Rainy days do this to me. 'Cold' and rainy days for me are kicks-to-the-curb on steroids. Meh. In my PJs now. I'm gonna waste the rest of the day watching anime and poking around the Fediverse. So there. 😛

Watching a new episode of Magnum PI on CBS All-Access. I enjoyed Tom Seleck and gang in the original TV series, but Jay Hernandez and Perdita Weeks make a much better, more believable Magnum and Higgins. IMHO, the 2018 version is the best of the two, and the best TV show on the network. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7942796/

@mxlinux Awesome! I have a spare box setup with MX-19 that is running a weak CPU. This is just what I have been looking for. Thank you!

@mxlinux FYI: installing and running 'fbautostart' after install.setup of MX-Fluxbox automagically transfers your XFCE autostart over to Fluxbox autostart. Easy-peasy. Some things I don't like, but I'm sure I will find the means to change those. Otherwise: two thumbs up!

@boilingsteam If Firefox (and its forks) become Google's next target, I will migrate ourselves out of the Google ecosystem. We already use comparable products from other providers. We're not IT or some corp/small biz running mission-critical ops. Freedom of choice.

@boilingsteam I wouldn't put it past Google to want to bury Firefox, once and for all. I've been using Firefox since Mozilla was first formed--yeah, I'm that old--and though I use, on occasion, a Chrome-base browser as a backup, I find Mozilla's Quantum offering to be more stable, and more useable (read that as in Add-ons I can want and can't get on Chrome). It doesn't bother me that the majority use Chrome and forks. It may bother Google that they don't Mozila's marketshare...

@boilingsteam ...As for blocking forks, I see that as a 'I can't believe you took this long to do it'.
