@nipos Es geht eher um die Korrespondenz der letzten 2 Tage.Außerdem gibt es keinen Staatsfunk.

Oof, we just found out it's incredibly easy to remove the screen lock from any Android/LineageOS phone, regardless if it's a pattern, PIN or password, as long as the phone is not encrypted. Just remove the pertinent files from /data/system using TWRP or adb, restart the phone and voilà, lock is gone.Of course, this does not work when /data is encrypted. So please encrypt your phones, folks. Otherwise there is no access protection at all.

@penguin42 I'm obviously not surprised that it's possible, I'm surprised that it takes zero hacking skills to do so.

For the last year I've used KDE extensively. Now I'm more and more intrigued to use GNOME full-time, also professionally. While KDE is the epitome of the "Linux desktop", and certainly very good/pretty/advanced, GNOME has that distinct resemblance to mid-2010s Apple systems. I was stupid/smart enough to acquire a MacBook Air for business trips back in 2014, and while it's a textbook walled-garden, it made you feel warm and cozy.GNOME feels similar. It's easy and supportive. Very "un-Linuxy".

https://download.lineageos.org/ is down 🙄 I should maybe keep offline copies of the most important images.

@rysiek Exactly. Also, lol @ those people ("experts") who recently started recommending Keybase as a viable alternative for e2e encrypted messaging.

@loke @rysiek How does being e2e-encrypted and "open-source" already grant a recommendation? "Experts" should at least take 5-6 more factors into consideration, including the handling of metadata, the organization behind it, centralization tendencies, location of data centers and so on.

Really looking forward to the day a thoroughly audited #Briar will work flawlessly on #Replicant and #Tails. It would be a real game changer. So many discussions would end instantly. We could finally focus on the content of our exchanges instead of small technical details :yayblob:

https://blackblogs.org is down and hundreds, if not thousands of campaign websites and leftist blogs are unavailable at the moment. This happens when we "agree" on certain providers instead of diversifying our infrastructure. Outages and DDoS attacks can have a significant impact. Let this be a warning. #blackblogs

A Skater's Guide to Attending a Protest:http://www.jenkemmag.com/home/2020/06/04/skaters-guide-attending-protest/This is actually really good advice. The guide is much more detailed than you'd expect and also mentions some aspects that aren't usually covered. 👍

Wiping old microSD cards at 3 am is such a meditative activity. While doing that, I'm thinking about the possibility of a give-away box for tech stuff. We have so many items here that are no longer of use to us, but could potentially help people with zero money. Old power adapters. small MicroSD cards. Phones with flaws. 1 GB RAM sticks. It would be quite #cyberpunk to create something usable from the remnants of a past era. The question is - would anyone really want that? Or is it too trashy?

@sir You can check "open wireless firmware" on the T420, because after corebooting it you can easily install a $10 Atheros WiFi chip that is compatible with a 100% free kernel.Weight and battery life can also be improved to 1.3-1.6 kg and 8-12 hours respectively if you go for an X230 instead of a T420.That being said, the Pinebook of course makes sense. Thinkpads won't live forever, so it's good that developers are working on new hardware. Even if there's room for improvement.

So I made this "Tor phone", using a Samsung Galaxy S3, #Replicant 6.0, #Briar, Tor Browser, AFWall+ and some other useful apps. AFWall+ is configured to only grant Briar and Tor Browser internet access, which come with built-in Tor clients. No unreliable Orbot needed. It's working reasonably well. With a pre/un-registered SIM-card, this could be perfect for activism, as long as it's *never* used at home. The downside? It's not very fun to use. If you have a phone addiction, this will cure it 🙃

Listening to Rock Against Bush Vol. 2 on an old Thinkpad running Tails 4.7, while playing Need For Speed UG2 on the Playstation 2 is such a weird recombination of technology. One thing is for sure: this will not leave any traces. But why is there no Rock Against Trump?🤔

Has anyone ever attempted multiseat configuration (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiseat_configuration) in a real-life setting, using e.g. GNOME?This could be a fairly economic solution for libraries or net cafés. Any mid-range computer with 2x2 video outputs could serve 4 independent users. Less maintenance and less power consumption.
