@normandy I guess you are right. But my intention was to let them know such amazing/better technology exist than the ones they are using. But again as you said, they just stop listening to me after I repeat 2-3 times.

@amolithBut I've heard changing character count is very hard on Mastodon. Do you use the default, or have you changed? @shellowl

@mgrondin Oh nice video! I currently use openbox/lxde but was thinking about trying some fancy window managers, haven't started doing so yet, cause they do have steep learning curve but #Qtile looks easy enough to use.About the video, there was background noice and sometimes the audio was getting cut abruptly (I guess the background noice made it more prominent).Anyways will look forward to see more.

@luke I can’t believe I’d say that, but yeah I agree with you.Mainly two things remain: 1) Telling (trying to convince ) normies about free software and eventually eradicating proprietary software2) Software with modular design that almost everyone can edit._“The freedom to NOT run the software, to be free to avoid vendor lock-in through appropriate modularization/encapsulation and minimized dependencies; meaning any free software can be replaced with a user’s preferred alternatives (freedom _4).”_– Peter Boughton

The reality of #Brave Rewards and #BAT"BAT currency earned by Brave Browser users and Brave publisher partners has to be withdrawn through the London-based "Uphold" online wallet service. The fees for withdrawing BAT from that service are currently ranging between 20 and 30 BAT. That works outto somewhere between $5.22 and $6.78 at the current exchange price of 0.2638 BAT/USD. Loyal readers using the Brave Web Browser have donated a whopping 53.25 BAT worth about $14 at the current BAT exchange rate of about 0.2638 BAT/USD. That's payment for less than one hour of work over an entire year. Withdrawing those 53.25 BAT would cost us a 30 BAT fee - that's more than half of one years BAT donations and equivalent to about 8 USD. It is hard to argue that BAT donations are a realistic substitute for advertisement programs like Google AdSense."https://linuxreviews.org/Current_Etherium_Network_Fees_Are_Killing_CryptoCurrency_Tokens_Like_The_Brave_Browsers_BAT_Currency

It seems Chromebooks are total crap. According to the article, after ChromeOS end of life, you are supposed to throw out that computer and buy a new #ChromeOS. Isn't this e-waste?

Linus Torvalds, the employer of Torvalds and their boosters at 3ZDNet would have us believe that GNU/Linux has nothing to it except a kernel; there’s a new “History Report” which is actually an insult to historyhttp://techrights.org/2020/08/27/reality-distortion-scams/ #gnu #linux #torvalds

And plain text emails are a entry barrier.gates-entry.png

@mllepogany I believe deleting my Amazon account was most tough. There’s no appranet way to know that there’s no “delete” button in Amazon website. I used a search engine to find their delete related page help page.So basiclly to delete, you’ll have to call the customer sevice, they’ll send you a link via email, then you open that link, fill out a form and send it to amazon. Then you’ll get another email asking you to call Customer serviece again.. Then you call, they send an OTP while talking.. You tell them the OTP and finally it gets deleted. And must remember to tell them that you want your phone number removed from their database too.So it’s basically meant to discourage people from deleting their account.. Unless you are motivated to delete, you can’t. And it gets harder to delete over time.#deleteamazon

@AzureAlmond The most important thing me for choosing a distribtion is how much less proprietary software it adds by default. As I know that my computer works fine with 100% free distros I'll choose one of them so my options are these: https://www.gnu.org/distros/free-distros.htmlAdditionally I have high opinion about Debian. Now let's filter this list more: Additionally I'll prefer not using SystemD. As a normal user I see no use of it in my case.. Now I have 3-4 options left to choose from: Parabola, Hyperbola, GuixSD, Ututu. Now let's look for software availability and Documemtation/help.As GuixSD is relatively new/ and very different than mainstream distributions. Getting help would a problem and only sources would be official manual and irc.. So for me I'll leave that for now.I notice that Parabola would be great choice cause it's based on Arch and I'll get instant helps if get into trouble. Also the great documentation. Software availability is also great. So that's my reasoning behind choosing Parabola. Now about look and feel.. Can just install any DE. If anything is not as I want, or not working right (e.g., it was mouse sensitivity, screen tearing etc.) Doing a internet search mostly solves problem, if not, asking for help in the forum is also a option.

@kazriko @redstarfishCalling "Atrix" would be a fine choice. But the projects you mentioned are all secondary contributors. (Side note, you mentioned some distributions such as Atrix, Arch. They are *distributions* of the GNU/Linux Operating system. They just package different component to make it a whole system distribute it)It's expected that the project's principle contributor gets a mention. And the principle contributor is GNU Project and the system is basically GNU.(See https://www.gnu.org/gnu/linux-and-gnu.html )Since a long name such as GNU/X11/Apache/Linux/Tex/Perl/Python becomes absurd, at some point you'll have to set a threshold, so whatever you set it., we won't argue against it.Different threshold level would lead to different choices of name for the system. But one name that cannot result from concern of fairness and giving credit, not for any possible threshold level, is "Linux". It can't be fair to give all the credit to one secondary contribution (Linux) while omitting the principle contribution ( GNU ).
