On Columbus Day it’s good to remember the following:- Columbus discovered nothing. There were roughly 30 million indigenous people in North America at the time with complex and sophisticated cultures equal to urban areas in Europe and the rest of the world.- The purpose of the voyage was based on greed. It was to find a trade route to Asia and bypass the muslim-controlled trade networks and thereby increase profits by reducing the cost of the middlemen traders.The shameful outcome was European colonization, disease, plunder, slavery, and mass murder of indigenous people.Columbus Day should be ended in the US as a nationally recognized holiday.#Politics #History #ColumbusDay #Holiday #US_Holiday

@DrPsyBuffy Kind of true. His solution didn’t work to benefit the working class people he was hoping to benefit. But capitalism doesn’t work either to benefit anyone but the wealthy. We need a new economic system. I read Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” last night. I've read it a couple of times this time of year. It was written 20 or so years before "Das Kapital”. It’s sad that 150 years later we have the same problems, or worse.

On the Santa Cruz No Kings Day ProtestJust got back from an uplifting peaceful protest against Trump and the Trump regime. I’m guessing 5,000 people plus or minus some. After a few positive speeches, there was a march along the San Lorenzo river, over into downtown Santa Cruz, turning onto one of the downtown main streets with the sidewalks crowded with No Kings supporting protesters and their signs, the turning back across the river and back to the start. Probably a third of the people created personalized signs, they were pointed, clever, amusing, and all with the same goal - No Kings.I’m pretty confident that everyone in attendance is anti-fascist.It was a beautiful sunny and warm day.
