@ninapaley @LostInCalifornia Yeah, that’s Marxism — labor is this human activity which converts your general readiness for work into generalized usefulness in the form of products. If what you’re doing is only useful to you, then it’s irrelevant as a product. The idea of things having a value only comes after you already have products which are useful, so you can start asking questions about how these useful things are exchanged between people who make them and people who need them.It was an idea for productive workers making stuff — not for five-year-olds. It was never like: “oh, you’ve put in so much effort, so we should value it”.

I have successfully used the Socratic method to make #ChatGPT change its mind. It also admitted that its initial reasoning was faulty, and recognized that I helped to correct it by the use of Socratic method.

I don’t know what Congregation announces it, and I normally try to culturally, if not mildly, reason with people I disagree with, but — given the vicious intolerance of this particular faith — I consider it a reason to be proud.

In the authoritarian model one of the most important things is that the enemy is at the same time almighty and powerless, at the same time being a piece of trash, a marginal entity, a loser, compared to beggars, animals or a pollution to be eradicated — while also controlling everything and being responsible for all your failures.

Nothing is happening.Right now, just like last year, my son is on a sport camp right in the middle of the Suwałki gap. A bunch of 8-10 year olds, making multiple crossings to Lithuania and back, and from not one parent have I heard a peep of slightest concern. They’re laying low, after trying to talk to some media a ~year ago they found out they’re ignored by liberals and exploited by conservatives, and most of them still have nontrivial personal, medical, psychological, even just financial issues to deal with.Łukasz is the first one who has built himself enough of a solid public position before, as a science blogger, to be able to take on the inevitable storm of shit instantly thrown at him from predictable quarters.

My gf is going through the UN course on gender. It ranges from basic knowledge about sexism to arcane details about intl conventions and SDGs. Obviously, it's peppered here and there with a “sex assigned at birth” or “multiple genders” or “diverse gender identities”.It's taking hours, and it's a bajillionth frustrating obligatory staff course, with courses about surviving minefields and using hotels in war zones and so on, all of these having precisely nothing to do with her work. All of this identity stuff is in this category — stuff you can expect to see in documents and probably don't want to mis-step with, but basically never want to go back to or talk about once you have all of these courses out of the way, or devote any more mental bandwidth than officially required by the bureaucracy.We're in the mountains, we're going skiing in the morning, and certainly the last thing she'll want is to have a deep conversation on the ski lift about what's exactly going on with this nomenclature in this stupid course she'd just spend an evening on instead of drinking wine and talking to people.So… if you meet a person from UN and you want to talk about how UN takes a wrong take on gender, and they instantly look very annoyed, this might be just that.
