@robpike Out of idle curiosity, what sort of problems were you hitting?

@selea if I might suggest something, occasionally returning an error code for increasing intervals of time is perhaps better than slowing things down. Slowness isn’t always monitored (e.g. in an automated context) whereas errors tend to be much more noisy and obvious. Thanks for your work anyway. :-)

@mjg59 even a broken clock is right twice a day, kind of territory

@mjg59 @keithzg I don’t think he’s necessarily wrong though. Sure, you will have some quirks per device rather than per platform, but HW porting scales pretty well.Constantly rewriting UIs and whole tech stacks, each vastly different, though, is going to chew up vastly more effort. Especially when each time you get up to 70% before throwing it out to start on the next thing without ever shipping..Also a huge amount of effort on tech masturbation rather than keeping YAGNI in mind..

@ariadne less about W3C and more simply that those doing (or ultimately paying for those doing) the work will have the most impact, right?I understand why that can be concerning, but I also don’t really see how it’s at all avoidable, short of just not cooperating with big $, but that just means you’ll end up with multiple competing specs, which isn’t really an attractive proposition either

@mjg59 I went from 26 to 38 a while ago (one ver at a time). No problems.

@jon while I understand the problem it presents to you, on the other hand, watching what happened to opera makes me personally a lot more reluctant to embrace a browser that isn’t extremely open. I’d not want to tie such a central part of my workflow and data to something that might turn bad very quickly.

@mjg59 not in England, but I’ve been wondering what sort of breakdown has been going on with the people involved there after seeing some toots and taking a look

@jani cc @landley, who I know has very strong feelings about dependencies at build time
