@Raspberry_Pi @TobyRobertsPi Given the UK police's terrible reputation for surveilling innocent campaigners using the most cruel methods, and the subsequent denials and coverups, this should have been a big no-no for you. But, now, it's a big no-no for me. Bye.

@eesger @georgetakei Let me google that for you:```The young Federal Republic of Germany adopted the stricter version of Section175 of the Criminal Code (StGB), as amended by the National Socialists. As aconsequence, many of the homosexual men liberated from concentration campsafter the war were returned to prison in order to serve out the rest of theirsentences. The repression of these men continued unchanged until the formerSection 175 was relaxed in 1969. ```https://www.antidiskriminierungsstelle.de/SharedDocs/downloads/EN/publikationen/legal_opinion_paragraph_175.pdf?__blob=publicationFile&v=3

@alexelcu A pretty fundamental part of socialism is the idea of "from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs". A pretty fundamental part of fascism/nazism is the idea of useless eaters, and other undesirables who must be exterminated. These two ideas are at total odds, and one of the reasons why fascism/nazism is anti-socialist, and socialism is anti-fascist

@alexelcu I agree that the left/right wing doesn't make sense any more, with its roots in revolutionary France. But I think fascism is seen as right wing because, as Mussolini said, it is the merger of corporate and state power plus huge amounts of unhealthy nationalism. And any authoritarian state is going to degenerate like the former eastern bloc countries, who were about as socialist as they were democratic. Also, social safety nets are fundamental to socialism.

@ChrisMayLA6 Interest rates1980: 14%2024: 5.25% (thanks Liz, used to be 0.75%)This is the argument I've heard to counter those two examples.Which leads to a monthly payment of (on a 100% mortgage, just using bank rate as mortgage rate)1980: £232 or 46% gross monthly income2024: £1,354 or 47% Though, of course rates went down from 1980, hovering around 10% then by the time a 25 year mortgage was up, they were at 4-5%. And, in 1980 it would have been relatively easier to get a deposit together. So, build council houses.
