@futurebird It’s amazing how, about 15 minutes in, they see the tornado hit a house and then drop their storm chasing activities to turn it into a search-and-rescue of potential occupants of the home.

Punk is emphatically antifascism. I don’t understand people who identify with punk and support fascism.“We don’t care if we lose fans, because when history’s said and done, we want it known that Dropkick Murphys stood with the people, we stood with the workers.”https://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/music/dropkick-murphys-exit-punk-park-festival-founders-trump-campaign-donat-rcna220729

@phryk @futurebird Does wealth and power do something to the brain that makes them this way, or does wealth and power attract people who are already predisposed to this way of thinking?

@futurebird @blogdiva For a while, he was doing interesting things like giving away tons of money to charity or large prices to people in need, as part of his stunts, but then there were some controversies and scandals, and he’s spiraled downhill since then.My son used to watch his channel years back, but when all the controversy began, he stopped, and now, he’s anti-Mr. Beast.

Passive aggressive Slack tip #427:When someone adds you to a channel without any notice or reason, wait until their notifications are turned off, and send them a DM to ask “why,” selecting “Notify anyway.”

@futurebird @cwebber They don’t want to be moderators. Never have. They want to build a platform that allows others to provide moderation-as-a-service.The problem isn’t with their views on moderation, even though their take is terrible. The problem is how Jay interacts with people when they are mad or upset about an issue on the platform. She shitposts on them.

Is there an analogue to open source in any other industry? That is, is there any other profession where people spend their personal time working on hobby projects they give away for free, which others (including companies) use to augment and improve their own projects, adding value to their businesses?Edit: This isn’t a rhetorical question. I’m looking for responses because I’m having trouble coming up with examples from other professions.

@Npars01 @hacks4pancakes When I was laid off at the end of 2023, I polished up my resume and paid to have it reviewed twice. The biggest suggestions were to remove all experience greater than 15 years, remove the dates from my education, and remove all open source contributions and conference speaking engagements. I felt like I was completely eliminating what I thought was my “competitive advantage.”

@futurebird @Npars01 @hacks4pancakes Oh, true. Always interview them right back. It was just very disheartening to learn these things counted against me in the ATSes.

@lowqualityfacts I’m trying to figure out whether this site is legit, but their About Us, Terms, Privacy Policy, and FAQ pages all link to the same content, so I’m unsure this is a real thing, but a lot of their stuff looks really cool.
