So 碟仙 (die xian) is a type of chinese-style oujia board that’s very popular in Taiwan and #TIL that it’s actually adapted from the western oujia board. @john I’m not yet 35 but while I don’t think much of the alarmism is warranted and AI poses some exciting new possibilities, it has also very directly impacted my life by having short-sighted bosses getting rid of people and telling the rest of us that we are not really short of people “because you can work smarter with AI”. So: I’ve a relatively nuanced view of it but also not going to gloss over the fact that it has enabled lots of short-sightedness, grifting and needless pain…

@thepoliticalcat When I first joined the fediverse I learnt that the instance I initially joined prohibits discussion of racism because apparently, talking about racism that minorities face is racist. Equating minorities complaining about bad treatment from majority race with the majority race systematically oppressing minorities is something I’ve seen majorities pull over and over again, even among those who profess to be liberals.

@thepoliticalcat Yep systematic racism is the real problem. Of course it comes with racists getting too much power, so the problem still stems from “ordinary” racism, but racism is so widespread that the real solution is fixing the laws so that personal animosity against other races cannot be turned into political will. I always told people that Hitler’s racism is actually pretty banal and the real reason he was able to do what he did was because he was given the power to do so.

@irfan There’s a couple of or a few Sugarbun branches in KL which is another great local fast food chain. I heard that LFC is also decent but I’ve never tried it. I started going to Richiamo Coffee branches some time ago because it’s cheap and local but then saw nationalists posting “boycott Starbucks AND Zus because they have chinese bosses and choose Richiamo because it’s bumi business” which certainly left a bit of a sour taste, though I don’t think Richiamo is behind it.
