I've been around the fediverse on and off for a good 6 years now. I loved my little statusnet where i could post about more personal life and no one really knew about it. When mastodon started gaining more traction, the first thing i did, was install it. i decided even to put it on my main domain, foxiepa.ws. I felt that the software was reasonable enough to do that, and a good enough reason... My small VPS, kept crashing because of mastodon's memory load, even if i tried to retune postgresql, it just kept happening. I decided in the end, it was better to just drop it.almost a year passed, and i decided i wanted to run an instance for myself again... I chose to run it on pleroma, because it supported additional post targets supported by mastodon, and literally had been reported to run on raspberry pi's meager offerings. Pleroma has allowed me, a person who can't really do much due to my disabilities, and lives on SSI's small income, to be able to take back control over my social. It's not killing my server, i can hack it as i need, and it was trivial to set up and work on.so yeah, i think i somewhat know what i'm talking about here, I've used statusnet, gnusocial, mastodon AND pleroma. i played around with diaspora [though had issues with that and it didn't last long].

@kaniini is that serious, or a mass exaggeration...because if it is literally 500 pounds, i don't think we actually have a car that can take that. fuck.

@SuricrasiaOnline its out of our price range this year unfortunately. Because we'd have to do ALB -> NYC ; NYC -> MTR ; MTR -> ALB... and just the NYC->MTR is 140$ for us. another year with planning perhaps... I'm a little sad because i wanna go to a demoparty already lol

fun fact: CAD software is consistantly bad, and it always has been bad, it will never be bad, and none of the companies involved care

@staticsafe Honestly, as a vita owner. It's a pretty good console but I think the biggest mistake was moving away from how the PSP actually was. They should have kept feature parity with the PSP for the most part, sans UMD. They also should have ensured the ENTIRE PSP library was accessible, and they needed a way to allow folks to play their UMD collection with some kind of accessory IMO.They shouldn't have made a NEW storage medium for the Vita and should have either went with SD or continued with Mini Memorystick. I think that these are the biggest failings of the console. It does actually have a lot of great games on PSN, and it honestly made the move to all online games store at the right time in a lot of of ways. If the storage was less absurdly expensive I think more people would have been willing to ignore carts.

@staticsafe I think Iayed most of this out in my post that I was working on as a review when I first got the Vita. If I had finished that, I'd probably have made a followup explaining that just because you don't see vita carts doesn't mean it's dead. I mean we don't say that PC gaming is dead because you don't see big box games as much anymore...

@staticsafe Honestly I can't remember anymore. It's been years now. regardless, there are lots of decently good games for it, and many that were surprising ports to it of games for the PS3 and PS4 later in its life.I think that Sony should have had more first party games ready for it but *shrug*

@staticsafe The Vita was an exercise in 10,000 miscalculations by Sony. Overall the hardware wasn't bad it was actually quite good and capable, but it was so mismanaged. - It was released way too early. - It was overpriced- It was designed for a niche that wouldn't exist for another few years- It was under marketedIt doesn't help that the Core playstation market didn't care. The folks that bought the PS3 and PS4 didn't /care/ about the handheld. Even though it actually has some great features and is powerful enough to do game streaming from those consoles, and play optimized ports of some of those games. so much of how you can use the console just, weren't ready as an idea back then

@alynna @staticsafe with Memory Stick that was fine, since they had built that before SD even existed. The new shit with UMD and the Vita was fucking stupid.

@alynna @staticsafe They literally should have just kept using Memory Stick. No one really would have cared if they kept using it because, that was pretty much how things were then AND they could keep using the same memory card they used with their PSP.
