       @atrupar In the 90s, Rush radicalized a ton of regular people who listened to talk radio on the way to work.  Twitter is their new front, which is why Elon paid $44 billion for a non-right wing audience.  I know people don't want to lose their twitter communities, but now they're getting served up to the right-wing propaganda network.  Twitter is lost; even worse, it's actively corrupting people. Staying to "fight for it" plays right into their hands.

       @leo I think so.  I know people worry about Meta using mastodon to its advantage before breaking off, but Meta already seems to be successful and dominant without doing that.  If anything, it helps mastodon compete with Bluesky and Post.  The alternatives to Twitter now are billionaire-owned Meta, which has all the brands and celebs; mastodon, which will be able interact with meta while being decentralized & not sucking data; and small VC-funded silos that don't have much purpose.

       I'm sorry to inform you that buying and destroying Twitter on a whim is just the tip of the iceberg of the destruction that megabillionaires can wreak, and are in fact wreaking less publicly.  Just like a killer is made more dangerous by having a semi-automatic weapon, an asshole is made much more dangerous by having $200 billion dollars to play with.  They didn't get that power through good works.

       @JoshuaHolland It was stupid of Biden to push hard for a few Republican votes so that he could call the infrastructure bill "bipartisan."  All voters hear is that both parties get credit and they tune it out. Now Biden is putting his name on the signs to try and get some credit for it. Too little too late.  Nobody cares about bipartisanship these days. It would've been better as a Democrat-only bill that he could use to draw a clear distinction between the parties.

       According to Wikipedia, Starlink cost $10 billion to build.  The US just blew $100 billion on that fleet of crappy defunct ships that ProPublica published a story about today.  Shouldn't the US government start putting up its own space internet infrastructure ASAP?
