@ohyran yeah that'd be cool! I hope it's a convenient time. Today it was perfect.

@ohyran I can argue that UI in messaging platforms is all there is to it, presently. The features of email, mastodon, sms and xmpp/matrix are almost in parity. However our usage of them and the etiquette around them is so much different.Case in point the deltachat app on fdroid. It uses email as a backend but has a chat-like ui. It shows that email can totally fulfill the chat usecase but the usual UI with subjects, inboxes and separate threading begets a different usage pattern

@codesections @ironmonkey I had spun up my own similar solution years ago but it couldn't cope with weird password requirements. I don't know if this does but I would always have a site wanting one extra special character or a character would be forbidden. Some even choked when passwords were too long 🤦‍♂️

@ohyran the only thing that seems to me that's worth something is all the "how to do X in GIMP" content on the internet that's going to become hard to find...Otherwise, Glimpse is so much better...

@ohyran nah it was one of those @brainblasted initially proposed (if I'm not mistaken). Can't take that credit.

@feld it's still open source license-wise, but they don't accept contributions and their build system is private so that's a dead end. Fork awesome however seems a valid target. I will go that way.

@codesections that makes zero sense. Why even use the latin word if you're going to mangle it and don't just use "errors", the English word that clearly descends from that latin word. This way he'd also avoid writing a whole explanatory paragraph too. 😕

@cwebber in my mind this is just chicken and egg. Android community exists because there are kernel sources so you can run lineage, replicant or other forks on an easily procured device. Without kernel sources, even if one or two open devices existed there would be no lineage, just like there is no meego, nemo, firefoxOS, openWebOS, ubuntu touch, shr, bla bla @mala

And still people grill me about why I don't use messenger. I'd rather communicate publicly instead of this fake privacy.https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/18/technology/facebook-privacy.html
