@Spaghetti_Tree Gobsmacking. I know by now that's how these wastes-of-space think, and yet when it happens ^again^ it's always a shock anyone can have no human feeling. (Same thing happens to me with Trump all the time, in a different context.)

@4WPub "Inclusive," sure, but for *whom*? Including a few XY-people who like to think of themselves as women. Meanwhile, excluding women, half the human race, without even noticing. You'd almost think women aren't real human beings in those people's minds.

@Justwanttobreathe Dworkin was brilliant and insightful and (sadly) centuries ahead of her time.I don't think she's right about this, though. If inability to possess a creature construed as a domestic animal were enough to send men into conniptions of rage, they'd go bonkers at chickens who break through a fence. But they don't. They seem quite capable of carrying on calmly with other chickens, even if they don't recapture the escapees. The overwrought reaction to women is simpler. Women are able to provide labor and children, so men try to control them. That inevitably means they treat them badly, if not always then at least sometimes. And the way humans are constituted, anyone you mistreat has to deserve it. (Otherwise, horrors, *you're* the baddie.) So mistreated people are hated, reviled, etc etc etc. The mistreatment comes first. The hatred just justifies it. (AGP is a mere deranged twig on the massive superstructure of boxing women into their cage.)Misogyny doesn't cause inequality. Inequality causes misogyny.

@Cousin_Isobel This is a US-based issue? I ask because they have similar garble on the agenda in New Zealand, but the terminology and phone number look USian.

@Justwanttobreathe I'm not sure they do contradict each other. But the solution is different. If it starts with hatred, the jerks need therapy. Or some damn thing. If it starts with exploitation, then stopping that by laws, social change, funneling money to women (eg mothers get Universal Basic Income first since they do most of the unpaid work), is the solution. The misogyny would die away on its own when men cease to have the scope to be slaveowners.Admittedly, while they're aware they're losing their top dog place, the rage gets worse. The whole thing is awful.

@Spaghetti_Tree It's just another way to say "You're not human."Might-makes-right doesn't govern social interactions between real people. A strong male janitor doesn't apply it to the foreman. Or the CEO.Governments are way stronger than any man. They could drive up to your door in an Abrams tank, for god's sake. But they don't. Nobody is ever afraid of that happening (except in dictatorships, where might does make right, which is what's so obnoxious about them). In a government of laws, superior force means nothing. The rules matter.Except when it comes to women. Then it's all about force. As if we were cows or chickens or something. Because in their heads we are. We're just property, not people.Men who talk like that, or even only think like that, are the sons and heirs of slavers.

@4WPub I had the same light bulb go off a while ago. My God! They want to stuff us all into gender boxes! That's what the patriarchy wants! They're pro-patriarchy!It was like that famous Gary Larson cartoon of one cow in the herd suddenly lifting it's head and saying, "Wait a minute. This is grass. We've been eating grass!"

@mk @alex (Erm, I know it's beside the point, but at least in chimpanzees, showing all the teeth like that is a sign of aggression or fear. A real chimp smile shows only the lower set of teeth. If a human does that, they merely look insane. Expressions don't translate all that well across species.)

@NWLuna Feeling dumb, but I don't get it. It could be true of anyone, I guess. How is it specifically to do with trans? Footnotes, please?

@gingermilk @alex Good question if you're lucky enough never to be harassed. For me, just the concept of that much luck is hard to imagine.

@WomensLibFront @mk At least the article mentions some people who don't think it's all fine and dandy. Progress.Hilarious (in a laugh-not-to-cry sort of way) that a lawyer was gently advising Hubbard not to be the face of transgender athletics. Not a good look, I guess. Rather obvious, what's going on. We're supposed to reach this ridiculous point later, after people have been pummeled punch-drunk with BS, not *now* for heaven's sake. The whole thing is so cosmically unbelievable, you couldn't sell a scifi movie script like this. But we have to deal with it. :blob_dizzy_face:

@Hollahollara Eating in what sense, exactly? Lemon or orange zest (grated peel surface) are both excellent flavours in cooking. I love them. I've never met someone who doesn't. But eating the peels straight? Not so enthusiastic. I did know one woman who loved them, but that's it. Obviously, try to find organic citrus if you're using the peel!

@Spring @Hollahollara Marmelade! Yes, indeed. And candied peel, if it's done right, is divine. (I admit, as a child I'd eat sugar straight out of the bowl with a teaspoon, when my Gran wasn't around, so I'm not sure if the peel is an essential element :blobjoy: )

@alex Caveat: can't be arsed to look it up, so this is from memory. Agree with the commenter who said Coprinus. Common name: inky caps. If you didn't eat it, you'll see why: as the mushroom cap matures it rolls back and up to reveal the black "inky" spores.Look it up to make sure, but as far as I remember, Coprinus are fine to eat. Not famous as a mushroom to eat, i.e. not all that tasty, but won't put you in any emergency room. Disregard the Nervous Neds and Nellies. It also won't provide any interesting trips. It's just your boring basic very pretty shroom.

@meghanmurphy I'm not on any social media except spinster, so this whole pile on escaped me until I checked in. Sorry that you have this to deal with on top of everything. Reading comprehension seems to be astonishingly low out there.I haven't read the piece (since no social media) but I gather the disagreement is whether men who watch porn are to be shunned or not. (?) For me, I have to admit, it's a bit of a Mark of the Beast thing. Sort of like when I found out that an otherwise quite normal neighbor turned out to be a Trump fan. Or if a friend turned out to own slaves. Then again, as Slavery Footprint (http://slaveryfootprint.org/survey/) points out, in the OECD we'd be doing well to be using no more than 25 slaves or so each. But we don't think about it or feel like slavers because it's just built into the world. Like porn is for men.I really really really want a different and a better world.

@Al68_tt There's a memorable comparison of nine or so front page photos of her and Kate doing and/or wearing nearly the same things. The headlines for Meghan were snarky, for Kate admiring. So, yes, there's a problem. No question about that. But two things can be true at the same time. Racism exists. She is also unbearable. Like the time an interviewer (reporter?) was asking her about her tribulations among the royals and she responded by comparing it to Nelson Mandela's imprisonment. Um, no. Just no. As for the TRAs, it doesn't matter what they do. They're going to dump on women no matter what we do or don't do. The misogyny is the point. The only thing we can do is not let it divert us from staying as close to the truth as we can..

@Al68_tt (Of _course_ Clarkson and Andrew are worse. She just seems silly. Andrew seems to be the worst sort of criminal, and Clarkson is and always has been an atrocious sexist. At least, it's always been some kind of proud trademark for him.)
