       @paulrr I have mine running mobian. If I only used SMS, MMS and PSTN it would be perfect. Unfortunately, I use more than that (mainly XMPP and Signal). While I have those working on there, they aren't compatible with the PinePhone's sleep mode. Until that's resolved, the PinePhone will just be a neat novelty I keep around

       I decided to startup my own XMPP instance (Prosody). It was really easy! I also setup Biboumi and Spectrum2 (with Telegram and Twitter support) alongside it. It only has a couple of users on it so far. Still, with the OS (Debian Bullseye) and everything running, it barely uses more than 150MB of RAM#XMPP #decentralization #selfhosting

       @techlore I'm a bit curious what staying power Mastodon has for a lot of the newcomers. Without an algorithm to try to keep them engaged, I imagine there's going to be a quite a bit drop-off after a few weeks. Then again, maybe a lot of them will find it refreshing 🤔

       @thenewoil I'm not a fan how they put "choose your algorithm" as it makes it sound like you won't have a choice to get away from it. Mastodon (and other ActivityPub frontends) don't really use algorithms, at least for feeds. Feeds are just newest to oldest posts based on the category or hashtag you set for itIt's also slightly concerning that people might go with a heavy data-funded platform instead of a Mastodon instance, but that's nothing new. Overall, still a win

       Woo! I finally have Signal groupchats working on my Slidge instance! I can finally kill that bloated electron desktop client on my Pinephone! Seriously, Signal Desktop eats ~300MB of RAM on a fresh boot, which isn't great on a phone with only 3GB of RAM. Now if only Dino supported audible notifications then I'd be set 🤔 #Slidge #Signal #XMPP #Pinephone
