@purserhallard @RickiTarr I had to call my unemployment office recently, work through a phone tree for 2-3 minutes (not skippable), and when I tried to connect to a representative the message was basically this. Except that then the robot HUNG UP ON ME. Every time, for days. I eventually found a helpful video showing the “trick” to connect to a real person and got someone instantly, twice. So sometimes they’ll literally reject callers to avoid hiring more people!

@futurebird @Lana I’m pretty vocal about my history of CSA. Even well-meaning people often need me to be like… “hey, you responded to my experience of violence by wanting to inflict more violence, do you think that helps me? Do you think more violence will make me feel safer?” Most of them get it. These guys tend to 180 and accuse me of deserving it, bc the violence is the point to them. But so many reasonable people default to that violence, too. It’s cultural IMO.

@Nonilex these fucking ghouls. I know the cruelty is the point and we shouldn’t be surprised but god I fucking hate them. The man is famous for being hate-crimed and that’s not even good enough for them.

@futurebird @maswan @Jirikiha @sinituulia I think this is especially important considering shifts in advertising practices. There’s still traditional, “obvious” ads that we feel too smart to fall for (although we do). But now there’s spaces full of ads or downright propaganda presented as fun videos from that nice influencer who feels like a friend to you! Connect less with your friends, and more with the ones we’ve created for you!

I saw my aunt this weekend. I always admired her growing up: she was a dedicated dancer, bird watcher, traveler, and general arts-enjoyer. I took up ballet and piano because I wanted to be just like her. I just found out that she started all of those hobbies after she got sober in her 40s, shortly before I was born. Her defining characteristics, in my eyes, have occupied less than half of her life. It was a nice reminder that you can start a new chapter of your life whenever you’d like.
