       @leo But you’re still using alkalines? I switched to Eneloop rechargeables about 10 years ago (and the batteries I bought then are still in use!).

       @Penelope @jmlw1  Nice, though to be fair Norway does also have vast amounts of valuable natural resources per head of population, which subsidise lots of nice things.

       @Andycollier @Penelope @jmlw1  True, but if you look at, say, the oil production per capita, Norway is comparable to the UAE. The USA is roughly one eighth of that. That's only oil, but still...

       @Andycollier @Penelope @jmlw1 And Norway has 35x as much hydro power per person as the US. I appreciate I'm choosing carefully here, but it all helps with the quality of life. That, and eating lots of fish, I imagine. 😊

       @ironicbadger Just listening to the latest episode.  Not sure if you'd be interested in Borg as a backup alternative, but rsync.net do a special, not-widely-publicised service for Borg users, which is about half the price of ZFS replication.  https://www.rsync.net/products/borg.html  Just in case it's useful.

       I didn’t think I needed Nextcloud, but I installed it on my NixOS box and put the syncing client on all my devices, and gosh, it does work rather well, doesn’t it?@nextcloud

       @lanodan @vga256 I’m pretty sure it was a video camera, in the sense that it produced a rastered output suitable for feeding to a CRT monitor or camcorder or whatever.  So a framegrabber card in the computer read that signal through a fast A-to-D converter and captured a frame of video into its RAM, which could then be read out.  My memory is that digital *stills* cameras didn’t, in general, come until a few years later.
