lots of talk around discord and its place in oss communities, and I can definitely understand the issues with using it exclusively. and I definitely see the appeal of selfhosting mattermost and a slack-like workflow for people who are "in" the teambut what about outreach to average people? most folks I see want that less formal unordered chat arrangement, and I'm yet to see a viable, responsible option there

IRC is probably the closest, but has a myriad of issues that keep it in the past, mostly around mobile apps and log-keepingMatrix is too damn hard for a new user to get set up, while the communities feature is confusing and more of a filter than real separation..and then what? a forum? making a forum thread requires a certain amount of confidence in your question that I wonder if many have..

like.. me, community co-runner me, can post a link and say "join the discord!" and there's people talking about using the project and supporting each other and posting images of the cool things they didI struggle to think of another platform where I've seen that happen for randos

I'm going to switch instances, and feather.city is unlikely to stay online after that. I'm trying to make the migration tool work so y'all *should* be moved over seamlessly, but hey, it's worth mentioning.see @quarky

did you know that an average australian phone number is formatted like so: 03 4104 1111the "0" means inside the country (as opposed to +), the 3 selects the state, then a four-digit area/city code and four random digitssince mobiles don't have area codes, they all get assigned to an imaginary state (04), but for no apparent reason the numbers are grouped 2-3-3 instead of 0-4-4as in 0401 420 669
