@pluralistic @afx @evdelen @lizardbill Other anecdotes:1) IBM managers realized that programmers were just sitting there typing on keyboards, and getting paid a lot more than typists, for ( what they thought ) was a similar, slightly more technical job. So IBM starts firing programmers and replacing them with typists, with some training thrown in.2) Airconditioning failed at an IBM office and programmers had to seek management approval to take off the ties ( they all wore business suits ).

@futurebird The Captcha issue has been on my "to research" list.How does checking a checkbox prove that I am human?I could trivially write a script to do that for me, as could some motivated bad actor.There's not enough informational content in a checkbox to deduce whether the user is human.

@PopeASDF @RevXenoFact I had an anxious start to the day, with a lot of physical pain and grumbling. Once I got grocery shopping done, I settled in and smoked a blunt in a mango flavored wrap, while looking at the garden and the sun streaming in through a mango tree, and a lizard hopping on the leaves, and the purple flowers swaying. OMG! Cannabis is a highly addictive substance, and blunts are so super pleasurable, they should be illegal, or mandatory, or something! :blobcat_inlove:

@futurebird @Flisty @jalefkowit Excellent idea! I am constantly irked to see people at the post office receiving Amazon packages. I realized the harm Amazon does and started boycotting them years ago. Even now, I have a hard time trying to win friends over to this point of view, because of stupid comfort. They're inured to comfort, and "it's just cheaper". If we all undertook a little discomfort, we could end the great harms to people and the Earth that Amazon causes.Please keep us posted!👍

@zer0unplanned @Dicey I actually smoked all the way from New York to Paris on an Air France plane, similar to the one in the video clip above.Concordes could once have become a mainstream way to travel across the pond, except it was not profitable to sell seats to the non-elite.
