Be willing to change your habits and programs. Linux is not Windows or Mac. It is different. You switched for a reason. Don't let unwillingness to change be what sends you back some place you admitted wasn't working for you.

I finished a serene first person adventure game today called "Paradise Marsh". It has a great atmosphere and a nice art style. It could have had a deeper story and better save system but the overall game play is solid and enjoyable. It can be found on Itch DRM free and it has a native Linux version.https://lazyeti.itch.io/paradise-marshA more in depth full review I put up can be found on Gamespot.https://www.gamespot.com/paradise-marsh/user-reviews/2200-12872072/

This week's donation went to the MX Linux project. It's a Linux distro based off Debian which gives the user a choice in init system between Sysvinit and SystemD as both are installed. You can download your choice of editions which use XFCE, KDE or Fluxbox as well as install other desktop environments after install. It can also easily be used with the libre kernel if one wanted to if you follow the instructions at FSFLA and uses the liquorix kernel by default. It uses the Ext file system by default. The latest release is called Libretto which is based off Debian 12 but has several enhancements and newer versions of certain packages if you use the "ahs" version. Overall it is a great option if one wants a distro giving them more freedom of choice. The project's main website is here:https://mxlinux.org/The project has a forum and a presence on the fediverse:https://forum.mxlinux.org/https://mastodon.social/@mxlinuxThe project accepts donations through Paypal, Stripe and through Github Sponsors if you wish to help financially:https://mxlinux.org/donate/https://github.com/sponsors/MX-Linux

So it looks like the Arch Linux project has gone insane. On their unofficial Discord they are voting in favor of banning links to X, banning those who don't agree too loudly, and some have stated they want to kill Bryan Lunduke or hope he kills himself.https://rumble.com/v6g8ynj-arch-linux-discord-voting-to-ban-links-to-x-twitter-because-nazis.html?e9s=src_v1_ucphttps://x.com/LundukeJournal/status/1886153080971973070

Does anybody have any ideas on how to get Goverlay installed onto Alpine ? It's not in the repos and there is no Flatpak yet. I guess I could try to compile from source but was wondering if anybody else had any ideas.

This week's donation went to the Alpine Linux project. Alpine is an independent distro that has support for x86, x86_64, ARM64, PowerPC, and more. Alpine uses OpenRC for it's init system and Ext4 for the file system. It doesn't come with a desktop environment installed but the user is free to install Gnome, Plasma, Xfce, Mate, Sway, or Lxqt. Installing the desktop is as simple as typing "setup-desktop" and choosing which desktop to install and then the system takes care of the rest. Alpine uses APK for it's package manager. Alpine Linux was designed for power users that desire more a more security minded approach. All userland binaries are compiled as Position Independent Executables with stack smashing protection. This helps prevent exploitation of entire classes of various vulnerabilities. The installer is text based but is quite user friendly and isn't much more difficult than most other Linux installers. The project has a main website:https://www.alpinelinux.org/It's source code is hosted on Gitlab:https://gitlab.alpinelinux.org/alpineThe project has a presence on Mastodon:alpinelinux@fosstodon.orgIf you wish to help the project financially you can do so through their Open Collective:https://opencollective.com/alpinelinux

A thought I had come to mind was the most secure Linux distro ad more importantly why it is so. When I think of security OpenBSD comes to mind as certainly one of the best out there. It got me thinking what the Linux side has to offer. It is easy to try to list Tails or Qubes so I won't. What came to mind is little things like how Garuda makes it very easy to install the hardened kernel or how Alpine works to prevent exploitation of vulnerabilities through PIE and other methods. There is other things like App Armor or SEL but I can't tell if every distro uses them or not. I'd love to hear other thoughts.

Bryan Lunduke had a great video about Devuan. https://rumble.com/v6nnpar-devuan-the-non-woke-debian-linux-fork-without-systemd.html?e9s=src_v1_mfpDevuan is great for freedom of choice. During install gives the user a choice between SysVinit, Runnit, and OpenRC. If you use the netinstaller option you also get a choice of desktop environments during install including XFCE, Cinnamon, Gnome, KDE, LXDE, LXQT and Mate. It can also easily be used with the libre kernel if one wanted to if you follow the instructions at FSFLA.The project's main website is here:https://www.devuan.org/The project has a forum and a presence on the fediverse:https://dev1galaxy.org/https://toot.community/@devuanThe project accepts donations through Paypal, crypto and bank transfer if you wish to help financially:https://www.devuan.org/os/donate.html

No big loss for me. I was turned of from trying Chimera Linux by the wording on their site."Specific examples of things considered harmful and not welcome: Far-right and adjacent movements, tankies, putinists and other equivalent authoritarian chuddery Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, etc. Complaining about SJWs Loud anti-systemd nonsense, dogmatic suckless/”minimalism”, cat-v, cryptocurrencies and other sketchy religious movements"
