This week's donation went to 3mdeb. They work on porting Dasharo to motherboards thus freeing them from using a closed source BIOS. They also sell motherboards and whole systems that are already corebooted by them if you don't know how to do the work yourself or just don't want to.https://3mdeb.com/They have a presence on Mastodon.https://linuxrocks.online/@3mdeb@fosstodon.orgThey accept donations through Open Collective and Paypal.https://opencollective.com/3mdeb_com#3mdeb #dasharo #privacy #opencollective #foss

@ilyess @propatte @mullvadnet Ublock Origin is one of the greatest things ever made. I remember I had to go without it for 24 hours once a couple years back and it quickly cemented how garbage the internet is without it.

@asahi95 I'll only judge you if you complain about the propreitary services or programs. Because using them, especially if you pay for them, sends them the message that you're ok with whatever poor practices they do. Other than that you go wild and do whatever you want. I don't feel I have the right to dictate what another person uses but if someone for instance complains about the lack of user freedom or privacy on Windows and continues to use it then I have no sympathy.

@austin @asahi95 You can want it with all your heart but as long as the developer is getting your money they have no incentive to change. The old addage of "shit in one hand, wish in the other and let me knows which fills up first". You think Microsoft or Apple care what their users want ? They care about their bank account and as long as you're helping fatten that up then they will carry on as is.

@borisv The big question though is will they try this or something similar down the road ? I'd say the trust is broken regardless.

@lispi314 Good advice and goes further than the internet. You can lie whenever you want. It can be surprisingly beneficial.

"Basements n' Basilisks: Storms of Sorcery" is an interesting game that recently got a DRM free version. It is kind of like a simulator for a tabletop D&D game that playes like a combo of visual novel and RPG. It was released earlier in 2023 but is now available on GOG as well.https://www.gog.com/en/game/basements_n_basilisks_storms_of_sorcery#linuxgaming #gog #drmfree #gaming

This weeks' donation went to GhostBSD. It's an OS out of Canada that is based on FreeBSD but put's it's own spin on things such as having the Mate desktop preinstalled and having a GUI installer among other things. The code is licensed using the BSD-3-Clause license. If you're looking to leave Windows or Mac OS for a more privacy and security friendly operating system then I can easily recommend GhostBSD.The project's main website is here:https://ghostbsd.org/The source code is on Github:https://github.com/ghostbsdThe project has a presence on Matrix:https://app.element.io/#/room/#ghostbsd:libera.chatIf you wish to help the project financially with donations you can do so through Paypal or Patreon:https://ghostbsd.org/donate#foss #ghostbsd #github #matrix #bsd
