Anybody know a #wikinews admin? Their RSS/Atom feeds are nonfunctional. I'm not sure how to report this. #mediawiki #wikipefia #askfedi

Is there a really good primer on all the odd protocols #BBS systems use? I remember only a few of them by name and almost none of the details. I'm thinking of spinning up a #hamradio #packet node on a #raspberrypi. Someone recently called ham radio a "protocol museum" and I'm forced to agree.

Is there an open source alternative to #Duolingo with support for #Esperanto? My Esperanto has gotten quite rusty.

Yes or No: #Rust is a fad language and #C will continue to evolve and out live it. #Programming

@bortzmeyer Zig is one of three languages I have my eye on!- #Zig - Procedural and easier to read than C.- #Haskell - Functional in the extreme.- #Rakulang - Can be functional, can be procedural, can be OO. Fantastic grammar / #regex model.I think they complement each other. Every Haskell guy I have introduced to Raku has loved it. I've known a few people who use Zig when they don't feel like being purely functional.

Back in the day when 40 column displays were common on microcomputers, was email and newsgroup participation with 80 column systems awkward? Be that FidoNet and Echomail or the real ARPANET / Internet if (somehow) available. By the time I was connecting to BBS systems I had access to an 80 column machine, so I don't personally recall.#retrocomputing #usenet #email #bbs

I'm in the market for a cybersecurity related position. My background is mostly PKI and vulnerability management. Can someone point me in the direction of a solid recruiter or open cybersecurity roles that aren't ghost jobs? Full remote work is a hard requirement on my part.#cybersecurity #askfedi #getfedihired #jobsearch

Zig folks, what do you attribute the language's growth to? Zig is neither fully memory safe nor the first attempt at a C replacement, yet it's growing. What can unpopular language learn from your community? #ziglang #programming

Is anyone here using ZFS as their daily driver file system of choice on Gentoo? I like FreeBSD's ZFS integration and want to replicate some of that. It seems more polished than BTRFS. Unfortunately, it looks like the Gentoo wiki is a bit out of date when it comes to ZFS knowledge. #Gentoo #FreeBSD #ZFS #BTRFS #Linux #sysadmin

In the spirit of Follow Friday, what is your favorite underappreciated open source project? Answers with and without a Fediverse presence are valid, but website and/or source repo links are strongly encouraged. I like LocalSend, it's a cross platform AirDrop work-alike for Windows, Linux, Mac, PC, Android and iOS. https://localsend.org/#followfriday #opensource #windows #linux #mac #ios #android #localsend

So, apparently Windows 11 Home has a watered down encryption mechanism that is not quite BitLocker. Is there is no built in way to backup or restore the encryption key. Is there an open source tool that will let me do this? Again this Windows 11 Home Device Encryption not real BitLocker. There device only has a LOCAL account. No MS account is tied to it.#sysadmin #windows #askfedi #encryption #privacy #security

The open source vim-like spreadsheet program sc-im is wonderful to work with. If you use Vim regularly, it quickly becomes intuitive. sc-im is entirely viable as a LibreOffice Calc or Microsoft Office Excel alternative in the terminal. It even supports embedded Lua scripting. It's a one-man passion project that really needs more hands. https://github.com/andmarti1424/sc-im#foss #opensource #vi #vim #neovim #libreoffice #excel #programming #lua

@publius I didn't use old school sc. Off the top of my head... Proper undo/redo functionality, rebindable keys, and the ability to import data from CSV and XLSX files. I believe it allows multiple worksheets now. Did the original sc allow for Lua to be embedded? I'm not sure.
